I guess I'll share some of something I've been working on in the background. There are two sort of problems I ran into when working on the FNaF TCG- both stemming from the inherent nature of the game. As I'm not the rights holder- there's an obvious ceiling I have for how far the game can go- I can adapt material all I want forever- but I'll basically never make a dime off the game and thus can't really invest back into it. It'll basically just be a digital game with some occasional physical cards given out as prizes forever. And as FNaF releases are further and further spread apart- there's a limit to what I can even adapt. While I can and have made original cards for the TCG- and will keep doing so- it's somewhat limiting as a premise. At a certain point sets will end up with more original cards than adaptation cards at a certain point- which has some charm to it but I don't know how sustainable it is.
So I've been making a new TCG called "Protofeather" in the background. Protofeather is an original card game following the eternal 'paradise' of extinct creatures- Terra Rewind. It adapts dinosaurs and other ancient creatures into a low-level mystical setting (Dinosaurs are practically sentient and have some mildly fantastical abilities) along side the split factions of Neanderthals- The Edgestar Clan, the King's Court, and Alchermia. It's VERY different in gameplay from the FNaF TCG and my discord has been helping me work on it- including cementing the gameplay loop and balancing. I've made about 100 cards for it, with a T-Rex, Gallimimus, Ankylosaur, Titanosaur, Aquatic/Megalodon, and Raptor deck all currently being playable in the game. It'll stay digital for the time being like the FNaF TCG- and currently still is very WIP- I'm still using place holder art I've found online (with credit to each artist if the source listed it) and some of my pixel art as placeholders for the card art- but it will have all original art before the first set is "done" and I even think of trying to make a purchasable release. I estimate I'm a little under half done with the first set- aiming for roughly 240 unique cards not including alt arts or anything like that which I'll worry about once the gameplay side of things are complete.
In gameplay it's closer to Magic and the one Piece TCG- but is much more aggressive in its gameplay loop. It should also be easier to learn than the FNaF TCG. Some details to note are that the name plate for cards dictates the rarity (Copper Common, Silver Uncommon, Gold Rare, Rainbow Platinum Ultra Rare), which will matter for booster packs if I get that far development wise. Cards have a unique Size stat- which matters since your playable area is dependent on a Habitat card. It's kinda like a commander or leader- or more accurately it's like a game long set of passive abilities you always have in play. Smaller Habitats have stronger effects while larger ones tend to be worse effect wise but give you more room to play cards- with size also affecting the main win condition of the game "points". Unlike the FNaF TCG- it also supports more than 2 players potentially.
I'm mainly announcing it here ATM to gauge interest on the youtube side- accounting for my upload inactivity some. I'm ironing out some IRL stuff and protofeather has been fairly relaxing to work on (Alongside new pages of Freddy and Friends Newspaper)- since outside of that my life is fairly stressful right now. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in so I can account for what kind of work I'd be planning around. I'll probably release a tutorial video for the game eventually.
Just got back home from being T'Boned in an intersection by someone who ran a red light. I'm surprisingly unscathed for a drivers side collision though. The car I was driving is totaled though.
*Final Card is kinda a spoiler- and channel update in the second half* More secret of the mimic cards now that the game's been out a bit and spoilers for the game have been basically mostly passed for most people. Note that the Mycellium man is not a typo- they literally joke in the game about how it's spelled wrong- so I kept the wrong spelling.
In other project news- I'm kinda going back and forth on a lot of stuff and about the channel in general. On a fundamental level I know I can't just chain fire videos bimonthly right now- I'd need a very different schedule than I do now to pull that off- so how exactly video schedules will work is a little bit of an unknown- same with streams.
The current lineup of topics I'm thinking of are -Complete Mimic Arc (Help Wanted-Sotm games) timeline -Book Debate fallout -Deltarune Video -Remaster Series (Older Theories Updated with a lot of hindsight or new lore)
-New Channel with new content- SireSquawks TV- a channel more broadly focused on analyzing various shows, games, and series that Interest me but absolutely don't fit on the main channel as it is- modern youtube just hates variety channels and I don't want to confuse people conceptually about the channel changing direction and stuff. Likely this would also become the new home of Neon Dynamo's new pages and any videos on it- and the undertale comic I've been releasing bits of on discord.
To expand on TV some- I mainly want to work on it since as much as I like FNaF- my ADHD ebbs and flows my productivity a lot with hyperfixation. Once again, I really like FNaF- but there's a limit to how productive I can force myself to be on the topic. Using a channel of more generally overlapped topics without hard committing to a topic would be harder- but allow me to make more videos in my field of interest at a time- and likely would leave me having to produce so much original imagery for books that don't have any canonical or official visuals to reference (which SOTM kinda helped some by killing that part of the debate some but you get the point).
As for what the actual main videos of SSTV would be like- it'd be something like the main channel or the couple of Squawkulitius episodes- more focused on analysis mixed with opinions on things I enjoy or if I don't enjoy- are something I want to talk about because I think it's interesting enough to warrant discussion.
There aren't any scripts or finished videos or anything for SSTV yet- hence why I'm announcing it in this very long card game update post no one will read likely instead of a formalized video- but it's been on my mind, and I'd like to experiment with it some. A lot of my productivity comes from procrastinating one project with another- and being able to procrastinate between two channels' content flow might help some IDK.
In the background of other things I'm working on- here's Some of the Secret of the Mimic Cards I've made so far. As you may expect they (mostly) all play into the Mimic Archetype's focal gimmick which is spamming {Per Turn} abilities- with the "Core" Mimics (Like the Ruin Mimic, The Tales Stingers Mimic, Prototype Mimic, M2) ability to copy and reuse Once Per Turn Abilities- so a lot of the costume forms are meant to give the Core Mimics more abilities to use more frequently- increasing the versatility of the deck type. While I didn't show them here- I also am going to use a lot of the costumes (like the Elephant) for cheaper cards- since up to this point the Mimic cards have been very top heavy (a lot of important but expensive cards)- so giving them an easier early game has been on my mind for a bit.
Alright so I really wanted something out by the end of May- given it’s the anniversary month of the channel and all- and my birthday month, and neon dynamo’s anniversary month- but if shit happens it happens- and I just couldn’t quite finish the current video in time.
It’s rough draft is finished technically- but it’s not quite in a presentable state. I don’t want to end a multi month long hiatus with a rushed unfinished video with unmoving poorly overlayed PNGs- that would be ridiculous. It’s got to be moving mediocrely overlayed pngs!
I've finally got a video I think I'm satisfied with in the pipeline and about enough time to work on it. So that'll be coming in the nearish future. Also a few more FNaF cards as part of the "Retrograft" variants.
So in the background of many things as I transition to having a new job and stuff (hence the lack of videos- they'll come back when I have more consistency and am more used to the new schedule and stuff)-
I've worked out another group of FNaF TCG cards- this time a sort of AU bunch of characters called the "Retrograft" cast. They get their name from being the withered animatronics retrofitted and grafted onto with new parts to fill the role of the toy animatronics- and their mechanics reflect this by being a mixture of support and heavy offense/mechanical power.
The general theme of this bunch of characters is 2 in 1. While the retrografts themselves are designed "seriously" the project and world they come from is more of a parody of old fnaf theories that have come and gone- or are controversial or largely considered incorrect.
Some support cards for the Bizarre cast. These continue to imply more major story beats of the cards- and I wanted each major character of the story to have at least one card in this vein.
