Relaxation is crucial for any kind of human performance. For sprinters, attaining the skill of relaxation is crucial to running a faster 100m,200m or 400m. This is ignored throughout track and field. This channel helps you regain that relaxation and flow state so you can achieve performance levels you could only dream about and not only that, do it more often, and do it when it matters most during major championship competitions
I am a sports massage therapist, strength coach and muscle activation specialist. Not only do I use sports massage to replenish the body's abiltity to recover from injury, I use a hands on muscle activation method called Be-Activated to help athletes access that relaxed state. This puts the athlete in a state of flow - the best and only state that an athlete can really be at his/her peak.
The videos on this page are based on the philosophy of Be-Activated and will give you quick tips that will help you find your flow state and run faster than ever before
Andy Kidd - How To Relax While Sprinting
Lyles has "big game energy". Poor start, probably slowest start in the race, but came through to win with a new pb. Thompson had the best start but tightened at the end.
Lyles continues to perform when it matters. Relaxation helped him come through.
Video coming up on the "importance" of the start.

THE LAW OF REVERSED EFFORT. Interesting thread. The author has made the mistake of thinking this law is common place in elite athletics. It is not as wide spread amongst the elite as he thinks. But his conclusion is still spot on.

"The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it's consensus, it isn't science. If it's science, it isn't consensus"
― Michael Crichton
Following my recent video about the importance of anecdotal evidence, I thought this quote would be relevant.

Andy Kidd - How To Relax While Sprinting
Released a poll recently. In 400m training, What do you prioritise more in your training?
The following options
"Speed", "speed endurance" or "both have the same importance".
An overwhelming amount picked "both have the same importance". (54%)
While that seems to be reasonable assumption, remember this.
While I m NOT saying DON'T do speed endurance training, there is something that is often forgotten,
You gain speed endurance by simply sprinting regardless of the mode of training.
Why?
Because at the end of the day, sprinting is a movement.
And the more you practise the movement of relaxed sprinting, the more efficient you get at it. And the less energy is expended doing it.
It's like a martial artist that practises a move again and again and again.
He/she gets better and more efficient at it.
And It becomes easier.
Remember you will gain endurance from the sprint repetitions you do in training. You re training neural pathways by practising the action of sprinting. This means more muscle efficiency.
So when you are doing those 40-60m sprints in training with uncomfortably long rest periods, don't be worried about the fact you're coming off the track fresh and you're missing out on precious endurance and fitness
You're still gaining a speed endurance element to that training just by the volume of reps of high intensity speed work.
The "train hard" "HIIT" mindset has robbed us of the fact that exceptional sports performance is MUCH MORE than fitness.
Have a great Christmas,
Andy

Andy Kidd - How To Relax While Sprinting
It's impossible to train your hardest and train relaxed at the same time.
For a sprinter, training hard means training speed endurance as you can't "train hard" when you do speed work,
Speed endurance means discomfort and pushing yourself which means tightening up. Totally counter to relaxed sprinting.
Training hard limits stride length and stride frequency. And too much of it will lead to injury.
Remember you gain endurance from the sprint repetitions you do in training. You re training neural pathways by practising the action of sprinting. This means more muscle efficiency.
And you gain endurance from the relaxation you harness as you conserve energy.
Although there is a place for training hard, There is no need to train hard every training session.
