Inspiring story below

This young man and his team are simply amazing.

I met Aurélio Zafindaza and his team last year in Las Vegas in the context of an Excel competition.

"bonjour bonjour tu es Québécois?!"
"Hi hi! You are from Quebec?!"

They said in French.

I turn my head around (hearing French is rare in Vegas!).

They were more than 5 teammates that flew from Madagascar to attend the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge. A challenge where all students from universities/colleges around the world are attending to showcase their impressive skills in Microsoft Excel.

6 of em did it again in 2025.
They flew more than 24 hours.. leaving Madagascar and landing in Vegas litterally the same day, they're not only sheet travelling, they are literally time travelling 😂

These young men (and this year, one of their woman colleague!!!) are putting hard work into learning this tool for 4 years now. It was their second year in Vegas.

I've been chatting with Aurélio and he told me how they are practicing hard, so hard to be the best at their craft.

Training themselves online with tutorials, practicing hard and absolutely living and breathing Microsoft Excel.

This year was the second year I was able to meet with these brilliant minds. Their energy is through the roof, they are just lovely.

The Collegiate Challenge has two parts:
A Teams Challenge and an Individual challenge.

Aina Rasolofoson and Christian Mbolanantenaina were participating in the individual challenge.

The team roster, from INSCAE Madagascar was Joy Andriamalala, Christian (above) and Tsiory RAZAFITSEHENO.

I was rooting for them from the start, just great to get to connect with such passionate young folks.

They got on the stage and did their things. The rest of their teams including Aurélio, Aina and Dayana Hikmat Whaffa BEN HOUSSEN were on their toes, cheering from the front row. It was heartwarming to watch.

Flying from Madagascar is expensive, one of their member could not afford making it. I heard this story where they asked the community if they could fund a part of the trip. The community stood together (sadly, I wasn't aware of this crowdfunding at the time, count me in next year) and everyone chipped in to make sure these young folks achieved their dream.

And this year... they had one goal in mind... The victory... nothing else.

Chatting with Aurélio in the front row cheering for his team and wanting so hard to take the win home, he explained to me that this year Finals' case was a "Map" case. He told me that the map cases type are one of their strength!

After so much efforts, they made their dream come true, INSCAE Madagascar and the talented young team took the win with an amazing performance.

I have to admit that I cried a little bit.
I'm not sure why I got emotional there, maybe it's just because I love seeing people chasing their dreams and win at life.
It also says a lot about this beautiful community.

The Best Excel Function Ever Made?

Here are 3 examples that blew my mind



1️⃣ 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 & 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘆𝗺𝘀

I typed: “Create a list of 10 states of the United States of America.”
Excel just… did it. No googling. No copy-pasting. Just a clean list, ready to work with.

Then I asked: “Give me the acronym of this state,” referencing the cell.
Dragged the formula down… Boom. CA, TX, FL, NY… all generated for me.

This used to take minutes. Now it takes seconds.


Just by leveraging the LLM and its intelligence!!!

That's CRAZY...



2️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮
This one is my favorite.



I had messy names full of symbols, underscores, typos… the usual spreadsheet nightmare.



=COPILOT cleaned everything (except the very first row!).


Fixed spellings. Removed junk characters. Matched names to the closest correct version.



If you work with vendors, clients, CRM data… you know how painful this is. Now it’s one prompt. 🧠



3️⃣ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁
This one feels like cheating. (wait they all do lol)



I had sentences that contained TEXT numbers:
“I paid three hundred dollars…”
“I spent two hundred and thirty six…”



=COPILOT extracted the numbers.


Converted them.


Turned everything into clean, usable numeric values.



This is game-changing.



The things it can do right now are honestly wild.
