I'm Hank Vance. My wife Sally and I have spent the better part of our lives up here in Montana's Yaak Valley, living off what these mountains hand us — off-grid, hand-built, and self-reliant the way my father and grandfather taught me.

Before grocery lines and modern conveniences, mountain families knew how to feed themselves, keep warm, heal, and get through a hard winter on their own two hands. This channel is where I pass those old ways down — mountain cooking and cast iron, open-fire and woodstove baking, curing and preserving without electricity, hunting, tracking, and trapping, wild food and foraging, fire craft, shelter and winter camp, blacksmithing and hand tools, and the forgotten backcountry knowledge people used to know by heart.
