Where Is The Interpreter

The #WhereIsTheInterpreter campaign was started by Lynn Stewart-Taylor (@jerseysnail), who raised concerns about the lack British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation at the UK Government's national addresses throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

There are more than 80,000 Deaf people living in the United Kingdom for whom British Sign Language is their first language, and cannot always access English language, even if subtitles are provided. This means they may not fully understand the information provided by the Prime Minister and his advisers, subsequently posing a risk to themselves and others as they are not aware of the instructions and proposed guidelines for behaviours.

Therefore members of the deaf community, organisations and charities have all joined together to ask the Prime Minister: "Where is the Interpreter?"
