Guilty by reason of sanity

Why 'Guilty by reason of sanity'? It is the common experience I have had, where doing the right thing - with sound evidence of foundation in standards available to everyone - is still wrong because crowd sentiment disagrees.

Crowd sentiment is derived from cultures - the accepted ways of operating based on deeply etched traditions.

Evidence is pretty weak in changing minds, except when it is accompanied by pain.
