Welcome to 2021. And welcome to week 43 of my quarantine! The country may be locked-down but over Christmas, Santa managed to make his all important visits to all the good boys and girls - me too! Now I am in the new year, there has been progress. The programming is complete on Flight-2 computer and it has been connected to the three large monitors in the simulator room. I made some adjustments and ran P3D (at LEAL, Alicante) to see how it looks. So here's the latest progress report from a cold and snowy South Yorkshire.

Quarantine Escape Flight Update 9
It's the middle of week 36 of quarantine and lockdown and I've been using the time to make changes to my simulator in order to create a more perfect illusion of flight. The old projector is gone and the simulator has been turned 90 degrees. I added three large-screen 4K televisions to provide external views and will run it all using two computers. All the hardware is now done and everything has been re-connected. All that is left is the programming of the two computers after which I will hope I don't blow the fuses when I switch them on! Here is a tour of the simulator as of today.

Quarantine Escape Flight LRSM to LHBP
It's now week 26 - and that's six whole months of lockdown and quarantine. Bank robbers get a shorter sentence than us old codgers! But I refuse to be depressed about it so here's another escape. This time it's a dawn flight from Satu Mare (LRSM) in Transylvania, to Budapest (LHPB) in Hungary. I have a priest pal who is also a sim enthusiast and as he is from Transylvania, I am dedicating this flight to him. Quarantine Escape Flight LOWI to LJLJ
It's now been 24 weeks of quarantine - and it was only supposed to be 12, so I am now determined to do something different. Last time I did some low flying, so this time I will do a night flight. I was impressed by the mountain scenes around Ljubljana in Slovenia, so I have planned a night flight to LJLJ starting from LOWI (Innsbruck). As before, I detail how I made the flight plan using Navigraph, SimBrief and Windy.com. Quarantine Escape Flight KORD to KPWM
I'm 21 today - no, not in years but in weeks of quarantine! No matter, I'm off again on another escape. This time I'm reproducing the flight a couple of good friends took a couple of weeks ago. They flew from KORD (Chicago O'Hare) to KPWM (Portland Maine) on United Flight UA 3439. So I looked up the route and saw that it was used all the time by lots of other carriers as well, so I did the same. Quarantine Escape Flight TJSJ to TNCM
It's now been 20 weeks of quarantine and lockdown, so it's time to make another escape. I am back in the Caribbean but this time I leave from San Juan in Puerto Rico and fly to the interesting airport of TNCM - Princess Julianna Airport on the Island of St Maartin in the Dutch Antilles. It's interesting because at one end of the runway is a very narrow beach where all the tourists gather to watch the jets landing - just a few feet above their heads, and at the other, is a bloody great hill that would not be a good idea to fly into. Landings at this airport are always interesting as there are some unpredictable wind effects just as you pass over beach and onto the runway. YouTube is full of videos showing some interesting "dances" by pilots caught in these gusts and sheers. So climb on board and let's go! Quarantine Escape Flight MUHA to KMIA
It's been 19 weeks, four days and 14 hours since I began quarantine … but who's counting? Well, I am of course! But I refuse to be constrained or dismayed by it. So, it's time for another escape! This time I am responding to a subscriber who challenged me to fly into some bad weather – and suggested someplace in America. Well, since the news has included a hurricane passing through the Gulf of Mexico leaving damage in its wake that seemed like a good bit of "bad weather" to take on. So I picked KMIA (Miami) as my point of entry and then decided on MUHA (La Havana) in Cuba as my departure point. It's a short 249 mile flight but one that was flown by American Airlines (AA1334) every day up until the virus outbreak, so that's the flight for today. So join me why don't you! Quarantine Escape Flight LSZH to LJLJ
It's week 18 of quarantine and lockdown, but who's counting? Well, I am! So I'm off on another escape flight, and this time a flight suggested by @Branimir Filovski who told me about the now defunct Adria Airways. Adria was the flag carrier for Slovenia before it went into administration last October. Branimir wanted a flight into the capital city of Ljubljana at LJLJ Airport. I gave him a number of choices for starting airport and he chose Zurich. So that's what we have today. This is a re-creation of the last flight that Adria Airlines made from Zurich on 3 October 2019. It's Flight JP365 and it departed from Gate A55, Terminal 1 at Zurich. I begin "cold and dark" in Zurich, and end with a full shut-down in Ljubljana.
