The Magic of Java

A series of novels about an Englishman falling in love with Indonesia and an Indonesian lady called Made.
Elijah gradually becomes aware that his neighbours are plotting against him and using black magic. The effects of the black magic on Made becomes stronger and stronger and with it Elijah's awakening to the paranormal, including him seeing and speaking with many ghosts.
Things become very serious indeed when Elijah, Made and Made's youngest daughter Titi nearly die and Made loses her mind. Elijah begins to realise that this is black magic mixed with criminality and that so many people are involved he knows not who to trust.
Elijah attempts to understand all that has happened to him by moving between his training in the west as a scientist and Made's paranormal explanations. Upon meeting a guru Pak Karno, Made and Elijah are slowly made aware of the gifts they have been given to mediate between worlds.
