๐Ÿ’ก I'm thinking about creating a brand new, cleaner, and more advanced ASCII RPG tutorial โ€” built on everything Iโ€™ve learned while working on Ork Slayer v2! Think of it as a "next-gen" version of the 2022 mini-series, with cool new features like proper inventory, skill systems, and more.
(Of course, Iโ€™ll show you the progress on the actual game first!)

โšก Speed-based Battles:
This oneโ€™s fun! Instead of the classic turn-based system, battles are now speed-based. Each character has a speed stat โ€” for the hero, it's calculated from attributes and items; for enemies, it's fixed. Bigger enemies are slower, smaller ones are faster. A great way to balance the game!

๐Ÿ”ฎ Passive / Active / Status Skills:
The original game had some basic skills, but they werenโ€™t reusable. The new system is highly scalable โ€” characters can use passive (buffs/debuffs), active (attacks/heals/AoEs), and status-inflicting (burn, stun, poison...) skills.

โš”๏ธ Dynamic Inventory:
Forget fixed slots like main/body/head โ€” now you can carry lots of items and manage them however you like! Each item grants unique bonuses and supports different playstyles.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Merchants who buy and sell:
Traders got a full rework. Got old gear you donโ€™t need? Sell it for gold! You can also upgrade merchants to unlock rarer and more powerful items.

โšก 2024 was full of action! I moved to a new home โ€” it took a lot of time and energy, meaning I definitely needed a break from making content, I hope you understand it. Between moving and work, I barely had time for YouTube โ€” but now I'm back! Check out the recent updates on my projects!

๐Ÿ‘ฝ Field Trip (pygame space shooter)

It's basically done! A few minor UI and visual tweaks left, but it works. Next up: release strategy (Steam? Itch?), multi-platform support (because why should Windows have all the fun?), and of course, showcasing its coolest features!

โš”๏ธ ASCII Ork Slayer v2 (my first ever project)

Rebuilt from scratch after 5 years โ€” new combat dynamics, 200+ items, 3 classes, better inventory, and dice-roll events. If you love classic RPG mechanics, this one's for you!

๐Ÿš€ What's next?

First, I'll do my best to make some interesting videos for you guys. While progressing (rapidly!) with OSv2, I'll try to finish up and package Field Trip, then put it up somewhere. When both projects are completed, THEN comes the long anticipated pygame Ork Slayer. The ASCII version serves as a great playground for me to head into such a huge project with a clear mind and actual plans. Fingers crossed!

๐Ÿ’ฆ I've been grinding the whole week, after my 8hrs work another 6hrs editing, so I'd be greatful if you took a look at the new content!

๐Ÿ Since lots of you loved the Python Classes tutorial, I decided to enhance the project with better game structure and add RNG (random number generation) features such as evade, crit, counter.

๐Ÿ’ก I strive to survey and incorporate the needs of my audience into the channel content, ALTHOUGH the initial focus of my channel is gamedev videos, with some tutorials sprinkled here and there. ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ


๐Ÿšฉ I'm sure the core members have gotten used to me postponing stuff continuously - the reason is that I can't evade real-life responsibilities. When I started the channel, content was more frequent, as I only had a part-time job and quite a lot of time to make videos. Now, the full-time job eats up most of my time. Top that with me constantly moving, and you get my current situation.

๐Ÿ“ฐ To bring some good news, it will be over soon. I mean, not the channel but the hassle about my private life. I still think that even with 2.5 years on YouTube, we're just getting started. ๐Ÿ“ˆ
