Critical Care Research Group

Established in 2004, the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG) is Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary critical care research facility. CCRG consists of 80+ leading clinicians, engineers, scientists, economists, and support staff connected to all major cardiothoracic hospitals. CCRG has 7 purpose-built biology, engineering, and bio-fabrication laboratories, and the largest preclinical ICU in the southern hemisphere.

CCRG established the COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium in 2020 to facilitate the collection of data from COVID-19 ICU patients and to assist clinicians in deciding treatment pathways. The Consortium has since collected more than 35 million datapoints from 380 hospitals in 54 countries creating the world’s most in-depth database of COVID-19 critically ill patients. The Journal of the American Medical Association has acknowledged the ‘quantum change’ the Consortium has made to data collection.
