The trail of the new driving test has now finished and the DVSA have said that from 24th November 2025 the changes to the driving test will take effect.
There are three main changes that you
1. Reduce the amount of times you are asked to stop at the side of the road from 4 to 3.
2. Reduce the frequency of emergency stops from 1 in 3 to 1 in 7.
3. Increase the amount of time of independent driving to cover most if not all of the duration of the driving test using sat nav, traffic signs or both.
The amount of time pupils spend on higher speed roads, including rural roads, during a driving test. This aims of the new driving test is to better replicate the challenging conditions pupils face when they are novice drivers in the real world and help to improve road safety.

Driving in snow for the first time will be daunting. But if you get the opportunity to have a driving lesson in the snow, then take it because the driving instructor will be able to help you with what speeds you should be driving at whilst driving on the snow and give you top advice and tips to help you drive safely on the snow.
You will be surprised at how slow you should be driving at whilst driving around on the snowy roads. On a 30mph road in snowy conditions you could be driving at anything from 1 to 2 mph unto 5 to 15 mph. Driving at higher speeds would increase your chances of skidding your car or van.
At the start of this video you see a white van attempting a left turn into a side. The side road is covered in snow and you can see clearly the van loosing grip on the snow, but if the van was travelling at a slower speed, then the van would of probably turned into the left turn without skidding.
So reduced speed is one of the key factors at driving on snow, even the roads that have been treated with rock salt would still need to driven on with a slower speed.
Good observations of hazards ahead of you is also a key factor. If you are looking ahead into the roads whilst on snow and planning to slow down to a safe speed will limit the ricks of skidding on snow.

Finding a good driving instructor for you to start your driving lessons is very important. Recommendations is usually one of the best options, but whatever way you find your driving instructor, just make sure that they are qualified.
So if you don't know this, every qualified driving instructor MUST display their driving instructor badge in the front windscreen of the driving school car.
There are two types of driving instructor badges that could be on display:
1. The green driving instructor badge means they have qualified to a level to teach a learner driver on UK roads and be paid for it.
2. The pink driving instructor badge means they are training to be a driving instructor and are in the process of learning and qualifying to be a driving instructor.
