The trail of the new driving test has now finished and the DVSA have said that from 24th November 2025 the changes to the driving test will take effect. There are three main changes that you 1. Reduce the amount of times you are asked to stop at the side of the road from 4 to 3. 2. Reduce the frequency of emergency stops from 1 in 3 to 1 in 7. 3. Increase the amount of time of independent driving to cover most if not all of the duration of the driving test using sat nav, traffic signs or both. The amount of time pupils spend on higher speed roads, including rural roads, during a driving test. This aims of the new driving test is to better replicate the challenging conditions pupils face when they are novice drivers in the real world and help to improve road safety.
