Sean Oakes | Buddhist Practice + Culture

Guided meditations, Dharma talks, and Buddhist teachings for experienced practitioners and beginners alike, exploring our culture and daily lives as part of a path of liberation.

Sean Oakes, PhD (he/him, queer, Puerto Rican-English on Coast Miwok ancestral land in California), teaches Buddhism and somatic practice focusing on the integration of meditation, trauma resolution, and social justice. He received teaching authorization from Jack Kornfield, and wrote his dissertation on extraordinary states in Buddhist meditation and experimental dance. He teaches at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, East Bay Meditation Center, Insight Timer, and elsewhere.

Dr. Oakes' students appreciate his warm and relevant application of foundational Buddhist wisdom to the complex intersectionalities of our lives, bringing the Dhamma into conversation with current events and the social moment we occupy. His approach is community-focused and inclusive.
