Tent vs. hotel 🏕️🏨
Finding the perfect balance of comfort in travel
Our travels from 2013 to 2024 in Thailand, Mongolia, and Russia have been radically different in terms of comfort.
In Thailand, we stayed in hotels every night, while in Russia and Mongolia, we mostly camped in tents.
Pros of Tent Camping:
🔹Stunning locations
🔹Starry skies
🔹Campfire evenings
🔹Free or very low cost
Cons of Tent Camping:
🔻Hard to find truly secluded spots
🔻Can be cold, wet, or windy
🔻Cooking and bathroom logistics can be tricky
Pros of Hotels:
🔹Warm and clean
🔹Shower and breakfast (if included)
🔹Cozy, soft bed
🔹Laundry access
Cons of Hotels:
🔻The biggest expense during a trip
🔻The beauty of nature stays outside
🔻Finding a good price-quality ratio can be challenging
🇹🇭 In Thailand, you can still find good hotels for 900-1300 THB (~$30). The prices and service quality haven’t really changed in the past 12 years.
🇷🇺 In Russia, prices vary greatly by region. In the Altai Republic, we mostly stayed in guesthouses for 2,500-3,500 RUR (~41$), and sometimes the showers were outside (or had suspiciously large gaps in the walls for “ventilation” 👀).
🏆 Our perfect balance?
During our Altai-Mongolia trip, we did three days of camping, then one night in a hotel. Solitude, nature, and campfires—followed by a hot shower and a soft bed.
In Thailand, though, camping is only safe in designated campgrounds. Because of too many creatures I wouldn’t want to meet at night 🐛🪳🕷️🦟
What do you prefer—sleeping under the stars or a comfy bed with fresh sheets and a hot shower?

Silence, crystal-clear water, and not a soul around… Welcome to Baik… no, Khuvsgul!
Lake Khuvsgul is often called the younger brother of Baikal, but with one big difference: there are almost no people here. Just you, nature, and incredibly pure water.
In the summer of 2024, we travelled to this incredible place. The silence, fresh air, and feeling of complete unity with nature were truly special. Watching the water’s surface surrounded by mountains was an absolute pleasure.
How to get there?
🚘 From Ulaanbaatar: 757 km, with Murun being the nearest city. From there, it’s 101 km to Hatgal, where we stayed.
Where to stay?
🏡 Hatgal (on the southern shore) has guesthouses, campsites, and even small hotels. It’s a tourist-friendly place, and there’s an entrance fee for the national park.
This destination is perfect for those looking to escape the city noise and recharge in solitude, surrounded by yaks and fresh mountain air.

Hi there!
Today we released our first episode about our trip to Koh Chang in 2024.
We explain the route from Bangkok, show accommodation, beach, a cafe and rent a motorbike for our family.
Use captions while watching the video, as sometimes we forget to speak English so far 🤓, because we also record videos for our channel in Russian language.
See you and wish all your journeys come true!
