I explore two of my favorite genres of music: solo piano literature and church hymnody.
I have so far recorded the complete 12 hymnals and portions of several more. I have also recorded hundreds of brand new hymns by living composers.
I also have recorded well over 200 works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Haydn, Ponce, and Alkan and many others.
I usually post 15 or so new hymns every week and 2 - 3 solo pieces every month.

Did you know Clementi wrote about 100 sonatas? He also owned a piano manufacturing company which survived into the 21st century? (Collard and Collard) He was the teacher of John Field who settled in Poland and had a profound influence upon none other than Frederick Chopin. He also owned his own music publishing business. The man was a machine!!!!

After learning I have performed all 32 of Beethoven's Sonatas, I often get asked which is my favorite. While having a "favorite" is quite difficult...I have had love affairs with so many;-)... This one is certainly near the top of the list. The Pastoral Sonata, as it is sometimes called (but not by Beethoven) is so peaceful throughout. It is not quite as overtly evocative as B's Pastoral Symphony (as called by B), No 6, it certainly earns its moniker.

This is a very unusual P&F. Bach almost never sets up an accompaniment figure to accompany a melody. While the left hand in the Prelude is busy, it largely acts as the accompaniment to the work of the right hand. The Fugue is also unusual in that it only has two voices. If you are looking for your first P&F to play, this one would make an easy entrance into the genre.

You know...you know... one of the dumbest things I ever said when I was younger was: "Why do I need to learn that?" Well... if you ever wondered why your teacher made you learn your scales, here is a good example!

One thing which happened to the sonata form under Haydn's hands was its growth. When he began his career the sonata had a relatively small structure; movements were short. By the end of his career the sonata had grown into a significant musical form, often stretching to nearly 30 min. in length. This is one of his first to reach such dimensions, and worth every minute.

One of my favorite of all the 18 suites I have recorded! I could listen to myself play this all day long. I would wager you will enjoy it also.

What a wonderful day as we get ready for the coming joyous and holy season. Today's choice is a fun and uplifting sonata by none other than FJ Haydn. And let this be a lesson to you, just because the key is minor does NOT mean it has to be "sad!"

This is a bit off my beaten path. I first came into contact with Ruth Coberly's music with her piece 1865 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC1L3...) (please do check this out! It is Lincoln's Gettysburg address set to music...absolutely spellbinding)
Ruth is a wonderful singer and has mostly written vocal or vocal focused works. These Haiku are set for a four-part ensemble, but they were just so good...I couldn't resist recording them.
