Hi, I'm Josh. I produce, mix & release my own music independently and talk about how I do that here.
I aim to help others do the same by providing practical tips & insights that I would've found really helpful as a DIY artist when I was first starting out, including creative sound design and production techniques, live setup/performance tutorials using Ableton, and much more.
As my alias Luo, since 2012 I've released & gigged extensively supporting bands and artists including Venetian Snares, Death Grips, Battles and more, I'm probably best-known in the UK Experimental Music scene. I grew up on IDM & Breakcore, Drum 'n Bass & Jungle, Dubstep, Hip-Hop, Jazz Fusion & Prog/Post/Math-Rock, Metalcore and more - mixing these influences together in my tracks.
Mentored by mix engineer Chris Allen, I also have extensive experience mixing professionally for established artists such as RY X, Calibre and others on Polydor, Sony BMG and more, as well as for grassroots artists & smaller projects.

I’ve been working on a new long-form vid - currently it’s over an hour long 😳 I basically started a studio video diary, filming myself every time I work on a new project that I’m producing for one of my friends, in order to show my recording & production process start to finish.
I’m in two minds whether to post this gradually in parts, or just wait til the whole thing is done so I can put out one massive video.
In the meantime thought I’d let you know I’m still here despite not having uploaded for a little while - as always, big ups to everyone new subscribing even during the quiet patches! 🙏🙏🙏

Just finished mixing & mastering a new EP as my alias Luo, so there’s a bit of a quiet spot here on the channel currently as i’m focused on getting this done & sorting the release out - should be back here in the next few weeks with some new vids going into it all.

New vid! After my most recent one about how I combine Ableton with Neural DSP guitar amp sim plugins as a live guitar rig by using automation to change my presets and tones, without needing a MIDI Foot Controller -- someone asked how to set this up using a MIDI Foot Controller to change tones manually, instead of leaving it up to Ableton; I can totally understand why a lot of guitarists would prefer to do things this way, so here's how I'd set it up.
*Disclaimer; I don't actually own a MIDI Foot Pedal right now, but I have used a Behringer FCB1010 to do this before and can confirm it works with that. In this vid I use the Korg Nanokontrol 2, but you can use any MIDI controller to do this.

Hello, sorry this is a bit late today - I have spent my whole day setting up the live sound tech for an enormous children's production of the musical Footloose with only 32 channels in my mixing console (actual hell) and I have now arrived home to post my video about esoteric music production that probably could not be any further away from a musical version of Footloose.

New viddingtons up! recorded a little solo live set performing some of my own tunes. Expect a range of IDM and Breakcore to Future Bass, Future Jazz, some Metalcore, Downtempo / Trip-Hop vibes, basically it's pretty varied but all tied together with my signature glitchy FX business.
Hope it provides some context to my previous & future uploads and is a fun watching & listening experience 🤓

A few years ago I was abducted by an alien being called @OceanClone1and was forced to mix its debut album of eldritch bangers whilst it squatted next to me about 2ft away from my face, dead-still, breathing heavily in my ear.
