😆🏈 “For the People Who Come for the Snacks (Not the Football)”
We see you.
You didn’t come for the game…
You came for the wings, chips, dip, and desserts.
Here’s how to survive the Big Game without needing sweatpants by halftime 👇
🥇 1. Don’t Arrive Starving Like It’s the Last Supper
Eat a real meal before the party.
Otherwise, your brain will tell you:
“I don’t even like football… but I WILL destroy this queso.”
🥤 2. Hydrate Like It’s a Competitive Sport
Half the time you think you’re hungry, you’re just thirsty… or bored during commercials.
Try water first. Bring your own bottle.
If you’re still thinking about nachos after — carry on.
🍗 3. Lead With Protein (So You Don’t Black Out in the Chip Bowl)
Protein helps you feel full and prevents the classic:
“I don’t remember eating that many pizza bites, but here we are.”
Wings, meatballs, shrimp, deviled eggs = MVPs.
🥗 4. Put Something Green on Your Plate (For Balance… and Appearances)
Is it nutrition? Yes.
Is it also to prove to yourself and others that you “tried”? Also yes.
Veggies + dip totally count.
🧠 5. Choose Your “Worth It” Foods
Not everything deserves your stomach real estate.
Ask yourself:
“If I wasn’t at this party, would I still want this?”
If yes — eat it with joy. Pro Tip- a few bites usually satisfies.
If no — let it ride the bench.
🍺 6. Alternate Drinks Like a Pro
One drink → one water → repeat.
This prevents:
• Overeating
• Next-day regret
• Texts you’ll wish you hadn’t sent
⏸️ 7. Eat in Quarters, Not Just in Commercials
Commercials = danger zone.
That’s where mindless snacking turns into:
“Did I eat dinner… or just snacks?”
Pause. Check in. Resume if truly hungry.
🏃♀️ 8. Halftime = Movement Break
Stretch. Walk. Do 10 squats.
Not to “burn calories,” but to remind your body:
“I am not actually furniture.”
🏆 Final Rule:
Enjoy the game. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the company.
Just don’t let the snack table win by a landslide.

Today, I was asked, “How would you describe today’s overall focus on health and wellness in our culture?”. While they only wanted a quick poll response, I started to contemplate this question. I ended up writing a longer version for myself, and am sharing my thoughts here.
Today’s focus on health and wellness is widespread, but often fragmented and reactive. There is a strong cultural tendency to seek quick fixes—whether that’s a supplement, medication, device, or increasingly, answers generated by large language models (think ChatGPT or Gemini)—rather than developing foundational skills for long-term health.
While technology and AI can be powerful tools for education and awareness, they are frequently treated as substitutes for critical thinking, personalized context, and sustained behavior change.
Much of the conversation is driven by immediacy: rapid weight loss, instant energy, or short-term symptom relief. What’s often missing is an understanding that health is built through consistent lifestyle practices—nutrition quality, metabolic health, sleep, movement, stress regulation, and recovery—over time. These are not headline-grabbing solutions, but they are the ones that create durable results.
Another challenge I see is that people are overwhelmed by information yet under-supported in implementation. We are consuming more ‘health content’ than ever, but not necessarily becoming healthier. True wellness requires guidance, accountability, and an appreciation that the body is adaptive—not programmable with a single prompt or hack.
The opportunity right now is to shift the focus from shortcuts to stewardship—helping individuals understand how their daily choices shape metabolic resilience, longevity, and quality of life. When education is paired with lived experience and evidence-based lifestyle medicine, we move from chasing fixes to building health.
My role is to serve as a supportive steward-guiding people to build lasting health, not chase temporary fixes.
If you’re tired of chasing quick fixes and want real, sustainable health then this message is for you. Drop a ❤️ below or share it with someone overwhelmed by health trends.

The Dietary Guidelines are Crucial, as they drive food in school lunches, military mess halls, and in other federal food programs, including women, infant and children programs.
Americans have followed the same guidelines for the past 45 years and our health has gotten dramatically worse.
It is time to consider other options: including a low-carbohydrate option, especially for those with diet-related diseases.
In my almost 40 years in the nutrition field, I have seen low-carbohydrate options work for many. While it is not for everyone, it also should be listed as an option.
There is no one diet for all! But, there is strong compelling data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs)for reduced carbohydrate diets in adults and children to reverse obesity and type 2 diabetes.
In my coaching, I like to focus on "natures carbs" not processed carbohydrates. My clients learn how to distinguish these very easily and learn to make lifetime decisions for their lifestyle.
I have many clients who wish others would also tell them about the benefits of low carb options. It is hard for some providers to discuss these options, as they are not listed on the Dietary Guidelines. But, we have our chance now. The 2025 Guidelines are being drafted now. These guidelines should serve the general public and according to data, at least 60% of our population has one or more chronic conditions, which means their health needs are not being addressed with the current guidelines.
