The Yale Russian Chorus is the oldest tenor-bass a cappella singing group in the New World dedicated to the choral music of Eastern Europe. This channel includes concerts, virtual recordings, and workshops organized by YRC alumni.
The Yale Russian Chorus (YRC), hailed by the Wall Street Journal as "Diplomats of Song", was founded 1953 at the height of the Cold War. The Chorus has made over 20 tours of the Soviet Union, Russia, and Eastern Europe, won international choral competitions, released 20 albums, serenaded presidents, and has performed in the world's leading concert halls. Our channel is fully bilingual English-Russian and has a large international following. It is one of the three fastest growing university choir channels in the world.

❗️ Интересно: Денис Мицкевич впервые аранжировал эту песню в 1957 году. Позже Русский хор Йельского университета включил «Пойду ль я, выйду ль я» в свой первый коммерческий альбом (альбом Philips 1962 года) и с тех пор исполнял и записывал её много раз. Нам случалось исполнять «Пойду ль я, выйду ль я» для Михаила и Раисы Горбачевых, Бориса и Наины Ельциных, Билла и Хиллари Клинтон.

The Russian song "Poidu l' ya vyidu l' ya" (I'll Go Down into the Valley) is performed by the Yale Russian Chorus and Alumni at the 72th Anniversary Concert.
❗️ Interesting: Denis Mickiewicz first arranged this song in 1955. Later, the Yale Russian Chorus included "Poidu l' ya, vyidu l' ya" in its first commercial album (the Philips album of 1962), and has performed and recorded it many times since. We have performed "Poidu l' ya vyidu l' ya" for Mikhail and Raisa Gorbachev, Boris and Naina Yeltsin, Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Наш 72-й юбилейный концерт Русский хор Йельского университета, первый в осеннем сезоне, прошел с большим успехом. Студенты, вернувшиеся с летних каникул, и выпускники хора, проживающие в США и Канаде, собрались вместе, чтобы дать яркий концерт. В программу вошли музыка из нашего недавнего турне по Кавказу, а также любимые песни из России и Украины. 🎉
Теперь у нас есть записи этого концерта, которыми мы поделимся с вами в ближайшие недели. 🎶🎤
Основной целью концерта был набор новых участников хора. После концерта многие студенты прошли прослушивание, и мы рады объявить, что выбрали двенадцать новых участников! 👏
С присоединением этих новых членов мы сможем продолжить нашу миссию культурной дипломатии через песню. 🤝

Dear friends,
Our 72nd Anniversary Concert of the Yale Russian Chorus, the first of the fall season, was a big success. Students returning from summer break, and Chorus alumni living in the USA and Canada, came together to perform a rousing concert. The program included music from our recent tour of the Caucasus as well as favorite songs from Russia and Ukraine.
We now have recordings from this concert, which we will be sharing with you in the coming weeks. 🎶🎤
The main purpose of the concert was to recruit new members of the Chorus. After the concert many students auditioned, and we are pleased to announce that we have selected twelve new members! 👏
With the addition of these new members, we will be able to continue our mission, of cultural diplomacy through song. 🤝

❗️ Интересные факты: Как и сама песня, написанная двумя братьями — Джорджем и Айрой Гершвинами, инструментальное сопровождение в нашей версии исполнено двумя братьями-выпускниками хора — Ситвеном и Эриком Липситтами. У Стивена есть мужской хор в Бостоне, Apollo Club of Boston, который тоже исполняет эту аранжировку. А некоторые певцы, участвующие в этом туре, также являются членами Apollo Club.

❗️ Interesting facts: Like the song itself, written by two brothers—George and Ira Gershwin, the instrumental accompaniment in our version is performed by two brothers, Chorus alumni—Steven and Eric Lipsitt. Steven has a men's chorus in Boston, the Apollo Club of Boston, which also performs this arrangement. And some of the singers on this tour are also members of the Apollo Club.

At the end of August, the Yale Russian Chorus will celebrate its 72nd anniversary with a traditional annual concert, which will bring together students returning from summer break and Chorus alumni of different generations from across the country 🎉

❓ WHAT: Concert in honor of the Yale Russian Chorus' 72nd Anniversary;

Рассказываем! Кто читал много восточнославянских сказок, наверняка сразу догадался, что за прекрасное создание взмахнуло крылом на нашем логотипе… А тем, кто сразу не признал, представляем чудесную Жар-птицу 🐦🔥
Мы выбрали эту красавицу из-за её общеславянского происхождения, чудесных свойств и музыкальных коннотаций. Её собирательный образ очень точно отражает деятельность хора — Дипломаты песни, несущие послание мира, дружбы и взаимопонимания — столь же прекрасное и желанное, но в то же время столь же труднодостижимое и трудноуловимое, как и сама Жар-птица ✨

First, our Chorus has a new logo on all social media (attached to the post) 🔥
Let us tell you more about it! Those of you who have read many East Slavic fairy tales will surely have guessed right away what beautiful creature flapped its wings on our logo... And for those who did not recognize it right away, we present the wonderful Firebird 🐦🔥
We chose it because of its Slavic origins, magical properties, and musical connotations. Its collective image accurately reflects our Chorus' mission—Diplomats of Song, carrying a message of peace, friendship, and mutual understanding—something as beautiful and desirable, yet as elusive and difficult to achieve as the Firebird itself ✨
Please appreciate the color scheme of the logo 😉
YRCAA is an acronym for the Yale Russian Chorus Alumni Association.
The second piece of good news is that at the end of August, our Chorus will celebrate its 72nd Anniversary with a traditional annual concert (details coming this week) 🎉
