We LIVE in an abandoned CHURCH!
…with 5 acres of land in Davidsville, NL Canada in 2018. The Church and a school existed here for many years providing for the spiritual and educational needs of the residents and their children.
The school building is long gone. The church was deconsecrated in 2014 but continues to exist in all its glory and beauty and serves as a strong reminder of the strength, resilience and determination of the hard working residents and families in this amazing rural community.
My maternal grandparents, Edgar and Mary Waterman moved here from Deep Bay (Hare Bay) on Fogo Island. The surnames of other families living here include Leyte, Hodder, Nippard, Simms, Thompson and others.
It is a true labour of love to renovate and refurbish the church into a year-round home and to manage and respect the land to create a sustainable homestead and hobby farm using techniques of permaculture farming.
