For years I would attach my self-worth and happiness to the end result that I was chasing.

Once I finish the Police Academy, I’ll be good, I’ll be happy and i’ll be the man I want to be.

Once I get into Detectives, I’ll have the life that I want.

Once my business is successful, I’ll be happy and stress free.

Constantly chasing happiness and validation on a future that I created in my mind.

What I failed to realize was that I was placing my self-worth and confidence on the outcome,

I cannot be who I want to be, without the end result,

Is how I carried myself,

And time and time again, once the goal was achieved,

The feeling I was relentlessly chasing, never came.

By always being stuck in the future instead of in the moment,

I would be filled with negativity,

Massive negative self-talk and filled with a desperate demeanor that I needed to get more,

Because that “outcome” was going to lead to my happiness, confidence, and self worth.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I made a mental shift and everything that was weighing me down melted away.

I stopped validating myself by the accomplishments I was pursuing or achieving.

And I began to validate myself through the habits and actions I would take on a daily basis,

By my ability to control my response to certain events, obstacles, and adversities life throws across my path,

And by the way I would conduct myself on a daily basis.

I realized I am a man who finds purpose in the pain, in the struggle, and in discomfort.

A man that pursues wisdom,

And a man who can endure failure and continue to rise again.

And I realized you are that man as well,

You just have to open your eyes to see it.

Comfort Was Killing Me

My goal in life was to have zero stress and just do what I wanted when I wanted,

To be “free” i would tell myself.

I ate with no regard to health or body composition

Drank to gain some confidence that I didn’t have

Distracted myself with TV, social media, and anything else that helped me avoid facing myself.

My personal standards we’re non-existent.

And I fully embraced comfort which is the path of “reward” without the effort.

By following the path of least resistance my life became hard.

The second I started embracing discomfort and pushing myself every day,

my life got easier.

Go to the gym, Train Hard

Eat in a structured manner,

Read

Write

Reflect

But above all put the effort in daily,

that makes failure impossible.

Along your path you WILL slip,

You will binge eat again,

You will drink again,

You will fall off your routine,

You will get lazy,

You will indulge in your negative habits,

This is inevitable.

The absolute last thing you want to do when this happens,

Is get trapped in that shame cave you’ve created for yourself.

Completely overcome by the shame, regret, and guilt you feel from slipping once again.

It happens to everyone,

But if you allow it to consume you, it will happen to you forever and you’ll end up giving up.

ACCEPTANCE is key.

Accept that it happened and move on,

Reflect on the negativity that it brought,

And make the changes necessary to continue growing and making progress.

The shame cave is where dreams, goals, and results go to die.

Focus on bouncing back faster and faster.

BUT don’t accept that it happened and continue to make the same mistake day after day,

That isn’t acceptance, that is fucking delusion.

It’s NOT about you!

You fail time and time again,

Regardless of how hard you try simply because you’re selfish.

I feel like drinking any chance I get,

I feel like eating all this shit,

I feel like sleeping in because i’ve “earned it”

I DON’T feel like pushing myself in any area

I DON’T feel like fixing these fucking habits that hold me and my family back in every area

I DON’T feel like giving up anything that gives me the comfort I’m so addicted to.

Selfish as fuck!!

I was the same way, for far too long.

But realize you’re not the only one effected by your lifestyle.

ANXIETY the over-thinkers disease,

Anxiety destroys more minds,

more dreams,

and more lives than anything else.

The stress and negative emotions it brings to your life is so painful

Most people immediately run to distractions,

They run to the food

They run to the alcohol

They run to the dope

Or they start lashing out to those they love most

because they can’t control the stress they are imposing on themselves.

But that’s exactly it,

The stress THEY are imposing on THEMSELVES,

Anxiety is excess energy and lack of presence,

Which if not managed,

Gets expended through negative thinking,

Which usually shows up in the creation of negative scenarios about what may or may not happen in the future,

which leads to negative emotions,

Which usually leads to a LACK of positive actions taking place.

Realize that your problem can be solved,

Clearly I have a good understanding of anxiety,

Because i’ve dealt with it my entire life!

Here’s the solution that helped me:

Positive Action, Presence, and having control of where your mind goes and where it doesn’t.

Anxiety is the negative creation of future events that may or may not happen,

When you’re in this loop, you are out of the present moment,

Your mind is in a made up scenario, not where you’re currently standing.

The most effective way that i’ve found to step into present moment consistently,

Is to burn off that excess energy in a positive way.

You must MOVE, LIFT, TRAIN, but exert the body vigorously.

Pair this with being the best version of you, moment to moment, and you will gain the presence necessary.

It’s hard to be present when you’re not proud of your presence.

Thinking is what got you into that negative anxiety loop in the first place,

More thinking will NOT get you out of it,

You must ACT!

That’s the fast lane to a miserable life,

Full of disrespect, disappointment, and resentment.

You Attract What You Are!

Do you want a supportive partner?

Someone who has your back no matter the odds or obstacles,

You must become that first.

Do you want an epic relationship with your wife,

Connected physically, emotionally, and spiritually?

Become someone worth having that level of relationship with.

Do you want a beautiful wife who takes care of herself physically,

You must take care of yourself first.

Don’t get caught up in just wanting your partner to be and do all of these great things,

When you’re not doing it yourself.

If you don’t consistently work on improving yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually,

Good luck.

The most selfless thing you can do for your family and your relationship,

is become the best version of you.

Without structure, there is chaos.

The reason you can’t stick to a new routine or a new habit is not because you aren’t disciplined enough,

The discipline comes after.

The reason you can’t stick to anything new, is because there is too much room for interpretation.

There is no structure which means there is no clarity in what you’re doing or why you’re doing it.

Lack of clarity leads to confusion which leads to a lack of execution.

Structure is the first step to achieving clarity.

Once you have a clear structure to follow that requires no thought, just implementation,

That is where discipline comes into play.

The discipline to consistently implement the plan,

Regardless of how much your mind tries to veer you off the path,

“oh it’s ok, we don’t have to follow it today, it’s just one day”

“I don’t have anything ready, what am I even going to wear”

“I don’t really need to wake up this morning, it’s my day off”

All of these weak negotiations keep you stuck in place.

Stuck in a place of negativity, mediocrity, and disappointment with self.

Not living up to the promises you made to yourself, time and time again,

There is nothing worse than sleeping in after telling yourself you we’re going to wake up early,

Why?

Because right off the bat, you’ve already broken a commitment to yourself.

One that you’ve probably made hundreds of times.

You’re starting the day off with negative momentum and a low frequency,

So now you have to work twice as hard to make it up and raise your frequency.

Structure is a gift that you give yourself every single day.
