You probably know by now that every year I arrange a huge open collaboration project, where folks from across the globe come together via the magic of the internet (and a lot of editing, haha) to play a tune together.
If you haven't taken part before, it's REALLY simple - a tune will be chosen and a tutorial will be made for you to follow. All you'll need to do is learn that tune, record a video of you playing it, and send it to me - and I'll include you in the project!
I'm planning on launching a new project early November (for the completed project to be post ed on YouTube in December) but I'd like your help choosing a tune - or at least a genre for the collab.
Which do you think would be the most fun? Or...the most achievable for you this time of year?
Don't like any of these options? Leave me a suggestion in the comments below!
Well, the original composition was a 19th Century Russian folk song called “Korobeiniki” – a musical recreation of a poem by Russian poet Nikolay Nekrasov.
There is a link between the game and the folk song. Tetris was created by Russian game designer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984 and it was sent to a Hungarian publisher in 1986. It was published by many companies all over the world, until Nintendo acquired it for the Gameboy in 1989, when Hirokazu Tanaka arranged the official Tetris Theme based on the folk song. The original game design was heavily influenced by Russian architecture and colours, and ‘Korobeiniki’ captured the frantic energy that was needed to win the game! It soon became one of the most iconic and recognised game tunes of all time.

With an art exhibition, a gig, a wedding, commissions, lots of comments to reply to from a few shorts (that kinda went viral - by my standards anyway!) and a bit of an update to my recording equipment (coming soon!!) I didn't manage to get a video out yesterday...so...I figure why wait? Here's the one and only video I've managed to complete this week.
If you missed my cover of 'The Last Goodbye' from The Hobbit on Friday with Danilo, don't forget to check out the cover on his YouTube channel@DdRuggitoDellAnima's. And if you want to learn to play it, you'll find the tutorial on my channel @CutiepieTinWhistle
I've noticed things seem to be a little quieter on a Friday lately and I wonder if it's a bad day to post tutorials for you folks? I always think it's nice to have a new tune to learn ahead of the weekend - but maybe weekends are busy with other things and you don't get chance to play tin whistle...I know that's the case with me!
I currently post tutorials on a Wednesday and a Friday. Would posting on...say...Wednesday and Sunday be better?
