Moved to Alaska in 1968. A sourdough refers to a person who has been around for quite a bit and endured the hardships.
i.e. 10 years or more. (Term came from the old gold miners and trappers) A cheechako was typically somebody new who hasn't proven themselves, or weren't ready for the hardships and usually quit or left. (7 years or less)

Both of these terms were used back in the day of early settlers or trappers in Alaska.

For those of you that watch my financial / stock videos. If you have purchased AXON, beware !! These new highs are due to a large short position 2.46 million. The stock rose, and the shorts had to cover, which now raised the price to nose bleed levels. The high Price Target was 525 for the year. It's P/E is now a whopping 115 times its earnings.
I sold all shares. I'm out. I will revisit entering AXON, after it retreats. Congrats if you did buy it, you should have some nice profits.

If you are like me and you like the outdoors and can relate to getting away from the 8 to 5 to go camping and exploring, you will love this Minnesota backwoods camping channel! We all run into some hard times, and well he's an average Joe with the same life problems we all have. He's run into a patch of rough luck.

Go visit "Kenny of All Trades". He always goes to a new place and usually will share a meal with you, and his dog Toby. Great Content, from stars, time lapses, Northern Lights, Drones...You get the idea.

Give some love, and ring the bell, watch some videos and subscribe if you like this type of content. He deserves it!

There will be no "Dollars and Sense" video this weekend. We had relatives up here for two weeks plus, many a birthday party happenings with family, and somehow I managed to pick up some nasty strep, sinus, ear and lung crud. Been down for a few days and I think we might be on the mend, Hopefully. With that we know a .25% interest rate will be coming in Sept. It's not a time to be out of the market, but if you see some nice profits (30-40% gains) take a few shares off the table. In the next few weeks you will see Banks, Tech, Real Estate, Auto's, etc. start rising in anticipation of lower rates. Banks and Lending institutions already made a nice jump last week. Be cautious, don't be afraid, just play it smart, with some common sense. This time of the year (Sept) it is very common to see some profit taking (Lower stock prices) from large mutual companies and others selling. Take some profits, and be ready to buy back in later. Stocks go up, and stocks go down.

Here is an interesting fact that may surprise you. Percent of GDP from Lending :

In 2023, loans in the United States were 47.38% of GDP, which was a 256.4 basis point change from 2020.

Mid August sunrise. A normal day? Sunrise is about 6:15 a.m. around Talkeetna, Alaska. Sunset is about 10:00 p.m. Why is that so important for us this far north? Well we can finally start seeing our Northern Lights again, and we know hunting season for moose is about 1 month away! In the next month till then, we will lose about an hour on each end of the day. i.e. Sept. 15th we should see sunrise around 7:30 a.m. and sunset around 9:00 p.m.

For those that are following, Stocks, money, etc. Remember this sell off is healthy, and should stabilize as many of the stocks are at their 200 day moving average. This is a good time to start a small position...."a small position". Next few months will be volatile. Be cautious on Tech stocks, they may go lower. If you don't have a position in some of these good ones, dip your toes in slowly. The sale is here! Buy smart and don't get greedy. Many out there are scared of a big recession. (IMO not a thing.) If you lived thru the 70's and the inflation then, this is nothing like that. September will bring different sentiment, as Fed will start cutting rates. (I'd be very surprised, if they don't)
