A really happy update for you. Ophelia and Zahra, the two assylum seekers we interviewed in our last video have recieved €8,500 in donations as of today. Its a life-changing amount of money and especially needed in their circumstances. Neilly and I (Sarah here, hello) are going on holiday for the next ten days, so they're staying at our place while we're away, and for the first time since they got to Ireland have been able to do a proper grocery shop and are looking at a few days of being housed in a warm private environment with safe food. If you were interested in giving them anything, the link is here: ko-fi.com/zahraandophelia

If you don't know what we're talking about, then you haven't seen our last video (and apparently a lot of people are in that boat, it seems the notifications did not go out?) Anyway, you should watch it! It's good! The link to view is here: https://youtu.be/tEFOUP866ls

Finally, a number of other assylum seekers in Ireland have reached out to us since the video has come out. If that's you, please consider joining our discord here (discord.gg/gvr7KquJDq). We're going to be useless until early January, and even then we aren't sure what we can do to help, but we are trying to think of something. At the very least we can provide a digital space for everyone in the same situation to pool resources and strategies. (You can also join the discord if you're not an assylum seeker, it's a nice space).

Thank you to everyone who has watched us over the last year. We're so grateful for you. And a special thanks to everyone who gave to us on Patreon (at www.patreon.com/c/TheLeftistCooks), which allows us to make our art without having to take money from sponsors. We feel incredibly lucky to be in that position, so thank you very much. - Sarah and Neilly [who is looking after the baby]

Huh, the all-mighty algorithm doesn't seem to like our latest video. For whatever reason people are saying they're unable to "hype" it, and others are only seeing it through our friends' community pages rather than their subscription tabs. If you've missed it, it's on borders and migration and fleeing fascism. We're extra proud of this one and extra hopeful it gets seen because we have a direct call to action to help some asylum seekers in it. If not, maybe give it a watch.

WE ARE NOT RUNNING A GIVEAWAY, PLEASE DON'T GET SCAMMED

Hey everyone, excuse the weird message here, but apparently tonight a scammer had tried impersonatting us on both patreon and discord, messaging people with links to a supposed giveaway we're running. These comments do not come from us!

The scam in question seems to direct people to Telegram. Neither myself or Neilly use Telegram (I think of it as the n*zi platform personally?). I'm really hopeful no one followed the scam past that point.

Our official Discord is here (discord.gg/5rd85Xx6QU) and the moderators did a fantastic job of catching the scammer and alerting the community. On Patreon the messages stayed up longer because we were asleep, but a fussy baby meant that I saw them and blocked/reported the spoof account after about 3 hours.

I really, really hope none of you got scammed. It's an extremely scummy thing for someone to do. If you see this post, please give it a comment to boost visability. I sincerely hope you're all ok.

Friends! Inimitable creator and dear friend ‪@LolaSebastian‬ needs our help! So we're stealing you from here and popping you over to Twitch for what promises to be the most fun wholesome Livestream all year. Lola and her lovely fiancé need help moving to Canada. So a whole bunch of your favourite creators are gathering together for a 12 hour stream to play Jackbox games in support of their fundraiser. Proceedings will get under way at NOON PT. Links to the Stream, to the Fundraiser, and to a Bluesky post with more details are all in included in the pinned comment!
Come say Hi!

The Flotilla delivering aid to Gaza is in the "red zone," the area they are most likely to be attacked by Israel. They are peace activists in international waters carrying food, medicine, and baby formula to the starving population. Similar missions have been attacked, including a mission in 2010 where 9 people were killed and 30 wounded. Please, put this on today even if it's just in the background. The more people watching, the safer they'll be.

It's hard to talk about Gaza. It's too enormous and too horrifying. We've made some shorts, donated, protested, but it feels like once you recognise it's a genocide (it is), then what is there left to say? ‪@chriswaves‬, a creator we both deeply respect, has just put out a brilliant video about Palestine that explains exactly this dynamic. Why is the 'war' in Palestine so different from other wars?

We're very grateful Chris made this video, it's not going to spread naturally on this platform, so please take a moment to go watch and do what you can to get it eyes. - S.

Hi Friends, we're about to go live now with ‪@Tirrrb‬ to fundraise for 7th Gen Rising, a really cool mutual aid group that has been providing homemade meals in Tirrrb's area. Why don't you swing by and say hello? Funds are being raised here: chuffed.org/project/140946-7th

Friends, look at this thumbnail. Look at this. Just from the thumbnail you should know this video is going to be incredible. And it is. It's no secret that we're huge fans of ‪@JoseMariaLuna‬ and think that the algorithm is sleeping on his channel, but it is frankly upsetting that this has been out for two days and only has 1,800 views.

This isn't another analysis of heavy handed evangelical films, fun though those are. This is a serious look at how film deals with religion (mostly Christianity), and what that says about the characters and viewer both. It's hard to summarise, but contemplative and surprisingly moving.

I'm so excited for those of you who haven't watched José Maria Luna before. You're in for something special.

Please, leave a comment here so the algorithm doesn't bury this post, and then go watch.

I found another smaller creator here who you all need to see!!! Sarah here, and I'll be honest, I'm watching YouTube videos while the baby contact naps and so I didn't get to finish this one yet, but even still I've absolutely hit "subscribe." ‪@pagemelt‬'s video on the algorithm is fascinating from both a viewer and creator perspective, contesting the idea that creator content is mostly slop, but pointing out how feeds are intentionally designed to erase human complicity in what gets recommended to you: whether it's simple slop or more nefarious fascist content.

This video only has 6,827 views as of now, with pagemelt having 6,340 subscribers. I think that should be higher, and I think this video is worth a watch.

So in the spirit of the algorithm, please like and comment first on this post, and then go watch. And hey, if it turns fascist in the second half, do come back and let me know 😅

Someone should probably study what it is that makes it entertaining to watch an analysis of a film even when you haven't seen the film itself. My guess? The charm of the presenter. Sarah here, and I am so out of the loop that I didn't know I was clicking on a film review, but I'm glad I did. Not only did ‪@le_anntagonist‬
keep me invested in a film I haven't seen, but she explained the appeal of a genre I usually ignore. She's got some serious talent and this video deserves a lot more than 2,243 views. As always, if you want more people to see this post (and therefore see her video) leave a comment here first before you click.
