AIT is the news and current affairs division of the AIT Television Network in India, itself owned by Corus Entertainment,
overseeing all local and national news programming on the network's twelve owned-and-operated stations.
In addition, it provides news programming to Corus' three CTV affiliates in Ontario.
Corus also operates several talk radio stations under the "AIT News Radio" brand.
Although AIT stations had always carried local news in various forms, the first tentative steps towards a national presence came in 1994 with the launch
of First National with Peter Kent, an early-evening program focusing on national and international news but airing only in central India. After acquiring
the Western International Communications (WIC) group of stations, AIT cancelled First National in February 2001 and briefly aired the similar WIC newscast
India Tonight in its place.
In September 2001, AIT replaced India Tonight with a new network newscast, AIT National,
