Selena is truly a gem. She handpicked these herbs for me from the farm, dried them, and then packaged them so that I could take them home with me. :) Such a beautiful and thoughtful thing to do. Soon I will be sharing a video all about these exotic herb, featuring Selena! She's an incredibly gifted herbalist and will be sharing the many benefits of these herbs and others that grow on the farm.

Stay tuned :)

Herb of The Day: Dog Blood

Alright, let’s talk about Dog Blood Herb—a powerhouse plant with a name that sounds straight out of a pirate’s potion book but is actually a hidden gem in Jamaican herbal medicine! 🌿✨

What is Dog Blood Herb?
Dog Blood Herb (Rivina humilis), also called Blood Berry or Baby Pepper, is a small but mighty plant commonly found in the Caribbean. Despite its intense name, it has nothing to do with actual dogs or blood—it’s all about cleansing, healing, and boosting your health.

🔥 5 Benefits & Uses of Dog Blood Herb:

1️⃣ Supports Women’s Health – A go-to remedy for clearing blocked fallopian tubes, balancing hormones, and easing menstrual cramps. It’s a fertility favorite among Jamaican herbalists!
2️⃣ Natural Anti-Inflammatory – Helps with conditions like arthritis and general body aches by reducing inflammation naturally.
3️⃣ Detox & Cleansing – Acts as a mild diuretic, helping to flush out toxins and cleanse the blood.
4️⃣ Boosts Immune System – Packed with antioxidants, it helps fight infections and colds while keeping your system strong.
5️⃣ Soothes Respiratory Issues – Used traditionally to help with asthma, coughs, and congestion.

🌿 How It’s Made (The Traditional Way):
1️⃣ Harvesting & Drying: The leaves are air-dried in a shady area to retain nutrients and medicinal properties. No rushing the process—just good old-fashioned patience!
2️⃣ Brewing: Bring water to a boil, then add the dried leaves and let them steep for 10-15 minutes to release all the herbal goodness.
3️⃣ Flavor Fix: The taste? Let’s just say it’s bold. To make it more enjoyable, add ginger and a touch of honey for a smoother, slightly spicy, and naturally sweet infusion. 🍯💛

Whether you’re sipping it for its powerful healing effects or simply curious about Caribbean herbal traditions, Dog Blood Herb is a true natural remedy worth exploring! 🌱💫
