Queer Screen is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ film organisation, founded in 1993 with the mission of reclaiming Sydney’s LGBTIQ+ film festival as one that is owned and operated by the community. Highly regarded by filmmakers around the world, Queer Screen is one of the most important platforms for promoting LGBTIQ+ cinema in the region.
The organisation now presents two annual film festivals: Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival (held in February) and the Queer Screen Film Fest (held in August). It also runs several industry initiatives, including:
• My Queer Career (est. 1993), Australia’s leading LGBTQIA+ short film competition
• Queer Screen Completion Fund, which has awarded over AUD $162,000 to Australian filmmakers since 2016
• Pitch Off, a short film pitching competition that has awarded AUD $60,000 in funding since 2018
