Hope you're having a great start to the weekend 😊
I wanted to share with you the message I sent my newsletter this morning 🔽
Are you trying to teach your child not to interrupt?
From my experience here's where I may start ...
FirI would make sure I'm meeting their needs and managing their wants.
And I personally think playtime with your kids is part of their needs.
It's about building up the foundation of that all-so-critical connection 💛
Since I believe this is the basis of your calm leadership.
Once that is in check here is how I may approach this:
For kids three and older I may use the BratBusters Behaviour Board.
Where their rule is no interrupting and if they do there's a consequence.
Of course clarifying that if they truly need something they can interrupt.
Here’s the thing though …
Oftentimes kids don’t even realize they are interrupting as it has become a habit.
So I may let them know that if they do interrupt I’d have a signal.
This could be simply touching my nose 👃
Then if they continue to interrupt after that, there would be a consequence.
No nagging or lecturing about the behaviour itself.
Just simply having a consequence which could be a two-minute chore ...
And then letting it go.
Because I believe where you put your energy and focus is what grows as a parent.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ☀

Happy Saturday ☀️ I wanted to share a message I sent my parenting newsletter this morning ...
Do you ever feel like your toddler is tuning you out?
Let's say for example they hit you with a toy block 😳
Then you explain that they can't do that because it hurts you.
You see them nodding along and even parroting that they won't do it again.
So you're probably thinking great! I've taught my toddler a valuable life lesson.
But then ... they hit you again 🫣
And you're like what the heck?!
I understand just how confusing the toddler stage can be.
(This is a reason as to why I created my Toddler BratBusters Bootcamp parenting course in the first place)
Here's my take on this ...
I think trying to reason with a toddler (16-35 months) is kind of pointless.
From my experience their world is about actions ... not words.
I believe it's essentially expecting them to enter your world.
From my perspective they often just aren't quite there yet.
So from my experience here's what I generally recommend as a calm leader.
Focus on entering their world 🌎
In my opinion their love language is play ... so play with them in their world 🤸♀️
Be really connected with them 💛
As I believe this is the crucial foundation of your calm leadership.
Then if they do something naughty ...
My general approach is to correct with consistent corrective actions.
No anger or long drawn out discussions needed.
Just removing them from the fun or the fun from them for a few moments.
And then you can go right back to that ever-so-important connection 🩷

Let's chat about bringing kids to restaurants ...
I wanted to share part of the email I sent out to my parenting newsletter on this topic yesterday ⬇️
Are you planning to take your kids to a busy restaurant soon?
Now if the thought of this strikes fear into you ... you're not alone.
But here's the thing ... from my experience it doesn't have to be overwhelming.
So here are three ways I personally made this process easier with my kids 🥗
1️⃣ Depending on the menu I may feed them before we go out.
Let's be honest ... your kid may not like what is served at the restaurant.
So my go-to hack was to feed them a little something before.
That way if they didn't like what was on the menu it was no big deal.
Alternatively if allowed I may just pack them their own little meal to have there.
2️⃣ There would be a stop at the park before to get out some energy 🌳
This looked like running around and playing with the kids in their world.
3️⃣ I'd pack a goody bag with things for them to do at the restaurant.
It wasn't fancy but just stuff like colouring to keep them busy 🎨
I believe it's about meeting your kids' needs and managing their wants 💛
