Okay, breaking radio silence here for a bit of a rant/update - or something along those lines (wall of text incoming, you’ve been warned).

As I discussed in my latest video, Part II was a bit of a turn off- actually, more of a substantial turn off for me. And as those of you who watched it will know: as a result, I’ve felt completely out of it when it comes to anything tlou-related the past 6 months.
To be quite honest, I don’t think I’ve been this detached from the fandom since before I actually played remastered for the first time almost 6 years ago.

My point is not to mope about the game not being up my alley. Already did that enough during my playthrough and subsequent discussion video. Rather, it is to voice my frustration on what to do next. Because regardless of part II being a letdown (for me personally), I still love making videos. I’m itching to make more content - but I’ve painted myself into a corner both creatively and audience-wise by pretty much exclusively doing tlou content for 3 years.

Let me explain:

Yes, everyone on YouTube says the only videos you should make are the ones you *want* to make. Even I’ve said that on several occasions. And it is indeed the truth, one that I still believe in. But it’s not the whole truth, YT is also a social experience. Not just a creative outlet. The audience is important too. There has to be a compromise, even if personal passions have priority. That’s why (alongside other factors like university studies too ofc) I’ve only published a single video since the end of summer.

Could I have made regular tlou content with part II material since then? Absolutely.
But, as mentioned with the whole “do what you want thing” it would’ve become increasingly inauthentic since I wouldn’t have enjoyed it.

Could I have experimented with other content? Absolutely.
But here’s where the audience thing comes in. I’m so incredibly grateful for everyone who’s supported the channel all this time, even when I’ve been completely absent for long periods like this several times. Which is why I don’t want to feel like I let all you guys down by not providing what you came here for - what you supported me for.
I know how much it sucks when someone you follow just up and completely changes their whole thing.
It leaves me at an impasse: can’t make tlou content (or at least part II) cause it’s not what I want, and can’t not make it cause it’s my entire “thing”, and surely what pretty much all of you came here for.

So my question to you is: what would you like to see from me in the future? It could be anything, playthroughs of other games, lore/discussion videos on other games or even something different altogether. No suggestion is dumb and I appreciate all of them!

P.S
This doesn’t mean I’ll never make any tlou content, I do have some ideas I still wanna do that I’ve been sitting on for a long time - but that’ve been too huge of a task to actually go through with so far.

@TheiPadCat

TLDR: Part II burnt me out on tlou. Really want to make new content but feel like I’ve backed myself into corner creativity and audience wise. Wondering what you want to see from me in the future and if you have any suggestions.

I would be happy to watch you cover other (mostly) triple A games or franchises whether that be through playthroughs or discussions. Maybe something like Metal Gear. Ultimately though, you need to enjoy making the content. That’s the most important thing

@itsjoans

hey sorry i'm late to the party and i totally understand how you feel. I'd rather see you do the content you enjoy instead it'll be much better for you and for us. About ideas for your channel i think you could make lore content about The Walking Dead (tv show, games, comics) or even big AAA games like Fallout or The Elder Scroll universe. The lore for these topics are vast and i think it'd fit perfectly with the type of content you do on your channel. Also Cyberpunk 2077 has an interesting lore that you could also dig into. These were my suggestions and i hope with whatever decisions you make that you'll continue making very interesting and informative videos as you always do! Praying for 2021 to be a wonderful year for you and i can't wait to see your new content! until then, i'll be pationately waiting haha :P

Something interesting that you may like is “Resistance fall of man” its a game where there are these aliens that invade earth and its a huge war, i know that sounds kind of cliche but if you get into it you might would find it very interesting its just hard to describe a game like that in just a comment, another good game you could do is the Metro series, it is set in Moscow 2033 where a nuclear war happened in 2013 and everyone now lives in the metros of Moscow, it has a lot of lore the atmosphere and setting is really cool and it’s actually based off the metro 2033 books and the books are good as well

Hi, first, thank you for your honesty. I agree that TLOU2 was not the game I envisioned or wanted from a character development perspective. Everything else was there, the music, voice acting, graphics, it just did not feel good at the end. I hope you find a middle ground and can continue to create lore videos. In games, I suggest "Days Gone". It is not as polished as TLOU but it has tons of lore and sub-plots that could lead to an interesting sequel. There are also franchises like Bioshock or the Tell-Tale Walking Dead series. You could also branch out to include content for shows like "The Expanse", or the new adaptation of "The Foundation" sci-fi series which look promising. Whatever you do, I hope you stay honest and tell it how you see it, that is what worked for me when I watched your videos. I am sure that I am missing many great opportunities, but the point is that regardless of which way you go do it because you enjoy it and not just to get clicks.

I’m surprised you were vastly disappointed and underwhelmed by TLOU2. Tbh after the leaks I didn’t have high hopes for the game but I actually really enjoyed the gameplay and story although it does have some faults. Although with that being said there is a ton of new lore to be explored and discussed that was introduced in part 2 and honestly I haven’t seen any other videos that have done deep dives into that lore like you normally do and I think you could do a lot of interesting videos breaking down that lore. Like even a WLF video there’s a ton of lore about the WLF both past and present that you could discuss. If I’m not mistaken the only WLF video you have is from 2 years ago and we didn’t know too much about them at that point. Best of luck to you look forward to whatever content you delve into

You’re a fantastic video creator Emil. It’s understandable that you have no passion for discussing something you’re not inspired with. I think one of your strongest sides is exploring lore of different games. You do it brilliantly, in detailed and interesting manor, digging up facts even hardcore fans sometimes do not know. Your visuals are always in sync with what you’re saying, which makes videos appealing to both ears and eyes. You got style, passion, and your previous works got a lot of people interested in your creative works, so maybe it’s something you should consider 👍 Plus to that, Factions 2 is definitely coming, and it’s definitely going to be incredible. You already know Factions very well, so it’s another path for you. No matter what you choose (except for funny cats compilations), those who know you and are subscribed to you, will be happy to see you back, and that will bring you even more recognition ✌️ Just please, don’t make funny cats videos..
