Here in Mexico is the defacto means of communication. You are expected to have a WhatsApp by pretty much everyone, some businesses even use it for things like customer service or on line ordering

I prefer threema. Yes, it's paid but you buy it once and you know exactly how they monetize it. For the people that don't want to cough up $2US, I am on signal

In my country it is the standard. Everybody uses it. Even companies use the special business version. iPhone users also use it exclusively. imessage blows.

Where i live data plans have a free deal with whatsapp so it doesnt affect our meagre data plans so its basically necessary.

used to use whatsapp for a football discussion group i am in, and we all moved to telegram. So much better there.
