Why did the Japanese Airmen overestimate the damage they inflicted? I noticed many people commenting on how inaccurate the Japanese claims were, so I think this photograph that can help explain that issue. This picture was taken after the costly air raid on August 8th, where the betty bombers claimed to have sunk and damaged 17 ships when in reality only two ships had been hit. At first glance, it would look like the damage was heavy, until you realize that the only ship on fire is the George F. Elliott on the left, while the two plumes of smoke in the center and on the right are just downed Bombers. In my view, If you were a Japanese pilot, full of adrenaline, entirely focused on making it out alive, being chased by fighters, and then you quickly looked back and saw this: You would probably just count the amount of smoke columns you saw and not conduct a careful analysis. Thus, they probably saw 17 smoke plumes that were their own losses. Well, that’s my thought anyways.

P.S. A channel update: As I mentioned, I am beginning a Guadalcanal Series. I started with Savo Island and will work from there to cover all the battles in chronological order. At the moment, I am researching and writing for Eastern Solomons! As you know, I am just a one man team, so all I ask for is patience since these videos take me a long time to complete. Thanks!

Your videos are from such a high level of quality and details. Midway is easily the best WW2 tactics analyse i saw in a documentary. Can't wait to see your next video! Quality takes time... especially for a one man project. All i can say is thank you for all the content!

One of the best history/military channels on YouTube. I was so happy to see you reuploading again. Wouldn’t mind some more civil war stuff too! Love the pacific war content as well though.

Love the work, the animations really stick out. You were actually the one who inspired me to look more into the Pacific War of WW2, not just find it brutal and boring.

I love that you and The Operations Room are almost in sync on your videos. Both of you make such high quality videos I don’t mind watching both.

I found out about you when your first Midway video went out, and since I have been subscribed. The quality of the animation, and the drawings are outstanding for a one person team. While people may say you're missing from the internet, you're just one-upping your last production.

Incredible videos ALL of them! Whenever you are able to start working on the Nov 13th night action, there is a new article by Robert Lundgren that makes many important new discoveries using ship wreckage analysis and even has a minute by minute plotted track chart of the battle. Cant wait to see what more you have in store! These are truly some of the greatest videos that cover this part of the war!

Wow, you do a really good job of explaining. One sidenote: Have you considered collaborating with Drachinifel, i just watched his entire Guadalcanal series, and its really good, goes into a lot of depth. You really could use some of his research and expertise in the matter, and it might help you with finding accurate information and sources. Anyway, i always enjoy your videos, they are some of the most clear and easy to understand explanations of these complicated events i've seen on youtube. Good Work!

You are, without hyperbole, the best channel on YouTube for content like this. We waited for parts 2&3 of Midway, and those exceeded all expectations. We will wait diligently for more of your artisan crafted masterpieces
