The Dime Drop

Do you guys think the conclusion of this bizarre NBA season will have an asterisk next to it, when we look back? Why or why not?

In terms of how people speak about the championship, certainly... but... one team beating another team in a final best-of-7 remains valid. I don’t think the achievement itself will be devalued by the majority of fans. Too bad E-40 never said “Sort of” on that track. lol

whichever team wins this championship will always get the "yes, but..." response when mentioned. This season will always be remembered as a heavily altered season and the championship win will not be considered as relevant as a "normal" win

I think if a Player has to sit out meaningful games because he got the virus there should be an asterisk cause you can't really compare it to an injury. You get injured because you play basketball and if it happens it happens. You can't really avoid it. But you could get the virus just by standing next to an infected person and to me that is a huge difference. I guess my point is that an injury is something that occurs "naturally" when playing ball but a global pandemic is a whole different story

Yes. Multiple players are sitting out and many others are contracting the virus and will follow suit. How can it actually count if most teams end up not being anywhere close to full strength?

Yes, I know every season has an asterisk based on the basketball watching public but in this case it really does. The level of competition and team ability to play is going to be skewed based on who is or isn't infected at any period of time or who chooses to sit out.

I'll believe no if they actually complete the season. For some reason I think they are going to pull some covid bs and mess it all up. I hope not but wouldn't be surprised.

@elros2753

No. Every team is operating under the same conditions here. It is an unusual season, of course, to say the least, but its no different than the Spurs or the Heat winning in lockout years. Yes, the circumstances were different in those seasons compared to others, but every team had to deal with those circumstances. The team that won dealt with circumstances better than the others, which is no different from any other year.
