Haley Takes On the World

If anyone had told me 2 weeks ago that I would land in Medellín and want to spend the rest of my life here, I would’ve laughed. Check out my most recent vid about why I moved to Colombia! https://youtu.be/2hXyng8FirI
Or read on for the 30 second anecdote : )

Only 2 weeks ago, I didn’t know much about Colombia beyond what it had been famous for in the last 30 years.. I thought I’d be living and working remotely for a month, and then move on to the next best digital nomad city.

Upon my arrival, as my taxi twisted and turned into the mountainous regions of Medellín, I felt an overwhelming certainty that this was a city I’ve always longed for.

Once one of the most dangerous cities in the world, Medellín is now a global success story. In 2013 Medellín was awarded the World’s Most Innovative City Award, beating out New York and Tel Aviv. So, why do I love it here so much?

Where to even start. The people, the food, the whole environment. This city is called La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera, the City of Eternal Spring. It’s a perfect 25 C year-round. There are tropical rains and storms, but because the city is situated in a valley, the storms are beautiful to watch from our balcony with a view. You know you’re from the West Coast California when lightning is fascinating and exciting to watch.

Which leads to another thing I love about this city. The views. I am so lucky to wake up with the mountains and the city skyline right in front of me. I have been to 56 countries, and this city has quickly moved to the top of my list of the coolest, most beautiful cities I’ve had the privilege of seeing. Especially at nighttime when the valley lights up.

Medellín is a city situated in what feels like a living-breathing jungle. When you’re here, you never really feel like you need to “escape the city” for some nature time. It’s pretty incredible that you get the best of both worlds.

Have you had the opportunity to visit Medellín? What did you think?

@lifewithclemens

I have been living in Medellin since 2019. It’s a great home base for any traveler or digital nomad. And when there’s a pandemic it’s great to be here because you can still travel (with precautions) to all kinds of places without leaving the country. Beaches, mountains, plains, islands, deserts, jungles; Colombia has it all! It’s the best country on earth!

It wouldn't have been on my list before, but so many digital nomads have picked Medellin as their favorite city in the world. I think your video highlights why.💜

Hi Haley,, I find it interesting why you and Wil haven’t visited Canada when it’s literally your next door neighbor to the north... Anyway, sorry to bust everyone’s bubble.. but ya’ll obviously haven’t been to Vancouver, BC 🇨🇦. Albeit it’s crazy expensive, 3rd to New York and San Fran in high cost of living... but the natural beauty of Vancouver is one everyone must experience once in their lifetim
