I like a standard end card used across every video of a channel with the same music every time. Nothing fancy. Gus Johnson is a good example imo.

Problem is, whether or not we like it (we do) - those items are all part of channel optimisation for traffic. Needed to scale properly IMO

As a Graphic Designer, I would suggest only putting motion graphics in if they help your goal of the video. I.e. want to stop people ripping it off add branded graphics. Want to help explain things info graphics might help. But that may require experience and knowledge. Keep it simple if it fits your purpose.

I reckon good thumbnails are important but the rest depends what your goal is and what you enjoy doing. Your passion is obviously clay printing and your format excels at sharing knowledge about that. I don't want to be discouraging but I find it unlikely that this type of content will generate a huge number of subs or revenue stream without a lot of time and effort on the flashy aspects you mentioned. You would also need to spend a lot of time on engaging script, presentation, camera work etc. That only makes sense if you are passionate about being a YouTuber (eg This Old Tony, AvE, Stuff Made Here) and channel growth. If not, it is likely that trying to force it will lead to burn out. BTW, this is my watching account, I have another account for my own stuff, and have learned from experience that chasing views can be demoralizing and can have a negative effect on what you actually want to do because it's hard to stop thinking "will this get more views?" Instead of doing whatever you feel like. Sorry for War and Piece.

I wouldn't mind an end card, or a Logo at the start, as long as it doesn't take the whole screen and makes the begging of the video longer.

I think you should consider having them but in your style (if you dont like them, put a short one, make jokes with the notion of having those) and with the experience that those that have had them before you got.

visual and audio branding is important to the viewer to identify and associate. It also gives the fans something to identify with. You can keep it simple and subtle without being obnoxious

You're showing proofs of concepts for what seems like the novelty of just wanting to share them with other people with no distraction. Keep it simple plz

I'd think it as a presentation card. Neither end of the spectrum is good, a middle point is always the sweet spot. Think of Dave Lee a.k.a. Dave2D, his videos are simple and decorated yet concise and straight forward

LoL... After I voted I saw that 100% of the respondents said keep it simple. And I agree as I'm one of the 100% however I also always want details of the print like, print time, and purpose of the print, other simple data points. As long as it's in the description or something I'm good. Don't forget to watch The Spiffing Brit's YouTube Algorithm hacking video. Now I'm adding algorithm comments, stop reading. 3D printing, 3D printing with clay, extruder, kiln, clay, pottery, 3D Printing Nerd, CHEP, Smarter Every Day, Mark Rober, PewdiePie, Markiplier, marsgizmo, The Spiffing Brit, Ben Sullens, CNC Kitchen, Earth Nation Ceramics, Homemademodern, How Ridiculous, James Bruton, Xbox One X, Jazza, jimmydiresta, Joe Scott, Jonthepotter, Linus Tech Tips, Make Everything, Make it Extream, Maker's Muse, OffTheRanch, Peter Brown, Project Farm, SpaceX, Elon Musk, Stuff Made Here. A logo in the corner of the video, to make it easier to identify your channel and know it's from you if it's shared elsewhere.

A friend of mine runs a fairly successful channel (hit 25k subs recently) without any of this. No intro, no voice over, no text, just images (model railroads - visually pleasing just as the content on your channel). Only thing is an outro which doesn't disturb the relaxing flow of the video. I see you being able to do the same, as long as the content doesn't become too repetitive.

So, when I look at some YouTube channels that I admire they often have a number of professional touches like intro graphics, end cards, links, logos, titles on the thumbnail image, etc. Thing is, I'm not really a fan of these things. I'm more inclined to just have videos, none of that fanfare. Is this foolish? Am I missing something? how do others feel about these slick accoutrements?
