I enjoy watching the actual attempt that breaks the record, the record attempts not so much

For me it's more about the people behind the speedruns. I never really liked watching unedited gameplay and such, but I really fell in love with how calm and fun the hollow knight speedrunner community is for example. But obviously it most depends on the game. I couldn't care less about all the minecraft speedruns even though I enjoy playing it. Hollow knight on the other hand has me so captivated as a game to the point I am genuinely interested in seeing all the kinds of crazy routes and skips that can be done and even trying some

hugoone's gta san andreas randomiser runs are so entertaining to watch. he isnt trying to break any rule, hes just there to have fun and challenge himself.

Seeing a player rage hard after ruining a god seed or dying during speed run is more interesting than seeing a pro make a speedrun world record.

The IGN series is pretty good tbh. To see Devs react to speed runs.

Only speedruns that are around 20 minutes or less example: doom 2016 speedrun, original half life, super mario 64

Watching speedruns is a guilty pleasure of mine, it’s just so exciting to see people finding out new tricks!

Yes, but only when they explain the quirks of the speedrun or they are doing commentary off it

I love it when it's a game that I'm actually familiar with like Minecraft. Seeing how people can just do some things so insanely quick and even getting like the exact coordinates for where to go to (like in the current RSG WR run) in like a few seconds is INSANE to me. I especially love it when they take a simple mechanic and then exploit it to make a new world record.

I love speedruns. The attempts that take people there to that new time is really fun to watch.

I love watching a channel called “summoning salt” one of the best storyteller here in YouTube imo. he talks about the story behind the speedruns: record breakers, new strategy, plot twist and much much more. Then usually i got invested and start waching and following the speedrunner he talks about. Video like: super Mario, ninja gaiden, castlevania are amazing, i recomend take a look

I think it's amazing how much time and dedication they put towards the game, even when they don't break the record. Also watching them rage is funny as hell.

Hell yes I do! I got a world record myself in a very optimized Celeste speedrun and I'm so happy about it. Speedrunning is entertaining because it challenges your ability to level up your execution level not only up to some arbitrary level the game's levels enforce, but up to the very best that you can get to, and possibly to the best in the world in case of world records. Achieving a great record breaking speedrun is an extremely satisfying event to happen and can easily make your day, especially after long months of hard work and practice. Grinding speedruns is a depressive process because you find yourself repeating the same exact inputs over and over and over until you perform them correctly but in my humble opinion that contributes to the beauty of speedrunning, as it creates a perfect time investment -> rewards correlation, without any external forces to speak of. It really is just you, the game, and your skill. The more time you spend, the higher your skill will be, the more rewarding you will find speedrunning. The only overhauling aspect of speedrunning is that it's time consuming, but nevertheless it's still a great hobby for busy people because just breaking the game's levels and performing insanely quick button sequences is extremely satisfying when you actually do it, and even more so after you spend the time necessary to get good at doing it. Edit: I wrote this comment out of excitement talking about speedrunning itself and not watching speedruns, *faceslap*, but that doesn't invalidate what I said.

Honestly, speedruns are just fun to watch and oddly enough one of my favourite things to do is just ahve it run on the background while I play other things. There's something almost zen like to it that I like

Easy speezy is my favorite he commentates while doing the speed run so it makes him more entertaining. He even did a charity livestream. He is wholesome in general

I speedrun Katana ZERO so watching and analyzing the top players’ runs is very entertaining. But it is also entertaining to watch the amount of skill and knowledge other people have in games you’ve played before. Personally i like to watch the original super Mario bros and GTA V.

I mean it's kinda cool to see people go to such lengths just to beat a game slightly faster than your average gamer, but I only watch it once they actually break the record.

Here I am writing a second comment about watching speedruns, since as being a speedrunner myself, I do that often as well. I find watching speedrun attempts fun, especially if it's a livestream, getting involved in the actual grind, learning about the different strats and interacting with the speedrunner performing the attempts is an engaging process. All the more with the speedruns themselves, speedruns typically make extreme and extensive use of every game mechanic and feature available to finish the game as fast as possible. I know that's quite literally the definition of a speedrun but I mean it, speedruns are extreme in some games.
