Thank you for using your platform to speak up. I've always admired that you don't shy away from talking about difficult issues where others are silent. <3

Thank you for including action steps in this post! I hope this list encourages others to do the same. I also want to echo comments below - I hope we can talk about which new brands you’re excited to support! I’m always interested in a conversation about ethical consumerism. 💙

Wow thanks for speaking about it. I always knew that you were quite political but somehow I never could have imagined that you would speak on white privilege and the disadvantages of black people all over the world. I am a black woman and its means the world to see a commercially successful white blogger to take stance! #BLM

Well said! As a union member I long ago committed to buying union made as much as possible to support fair wages and worker safety, and avoid companies with bad practices. As a white American woman in a chaotic but inspiring time, I’m now committed to expand buying a lot of my food from black owned family farms to other areas. I’m looking forward to listening, learning and being an ally to my black and brown brothers and sisters.

Well said! I hope this is from the heart and not just to be seen to be doing saying the right thing at this time, when it was available to be seen and understood before! Well done again! 👍💖

Thank you for speaking about this. I’ve seen a lot of white youtubers say about how they will give the Adsense from one video but haven’t actually shared there thoughts or said anything else with regards to it, so it’s great that you are! Keep up the great work Alix x

I hardly ever comment on youtube. But felt compelled to do so, because this is such an important issue. I am British Asian of Pakistani descent and proud of my heritage and colour. I work for the Police in the UK and whilst I have never in the 20+ years had to deal with any racism within the force - I know it exists. So does white privilege and accepting that it exists is a very small but significant step. ALL lives matter yes, but it's there in black and white on you phones and tv screens that Black Lives have unfair and disproportionate disadvantage. History shows it and recent events unfortunately once again prove it. Thank you for learning, understanding and accepting white privilege exits and taking positive steps to make a difference for black lives. #BlackLivesMatter

I Covet Thee
This week I have learnt more about white privilege & systemic racism than I have in twenty-seven years. And that is the problem. I have been the problem.
What I want to challenge myself to do now, and any others reading this that have a platform, is to keep these conversations going. Over the next week people you follow online, myself included, will be going back to regular posting. You’ll be seeing outfits photos, selfies, people monetising their content, and it might feel wrong. But we don’t have to choose between being influencers or activists, we can be both. We should be both.
As someone who takes up a space online and has a following because of it, I have a responsibility to the black community as well as myself to be better. These are my pledges.
I want to be assured that all future campaigns I’m a part of not only are in collaboration with brands who advocate for black representation, but make it equally as important within their social presence & marketing strategy. This extends to the events I’m invited to and the brands I accept unpaid gifting from.
I will diversify the creators I follow and the content I consume. Filling our feeds with women of colour in the industry is one thing, but engagement is even more important. Likes, comments & interaction is what this algorithm is built on, and we can choose to amplify the voices we want to be heard.
Supporting black owned businesses & being mindful of where my money is going. I can no longer continue to support a company who’s beliefs actively go against my own. This currently means saying goodbye to brands I have bought from and loved for years, but I will always be open to accepting that people can learn and change, and there may come a time again when they can do better.
Perhaps most important, keeping this momentum going offline. This is what really counts. Having uncomfortable conversations with people in my everyday life; friends, family & even strangers. Continuing to educate myself on all aspects of black history & how my own white privilege has benefited me throughout my life.
I will make mistakes, I will be imperfect, but I will continue to do the work.
