After looking at some stuff on bilibili/weibo about this situation, here is what I have to say.
From what I've seen, the xiao zhan fans who reported the supposedly offending fanfic of xiao zhan were being really overprotective. They could have just reported the story, but they ended up reporting the AO3 website too. Apparently even leaving one star reviews on stories that aren't related.
The AO3 fans are of course enraged that AO3 became unreachable in China. On 27 Feb, the community who were displeased by this started to attack Xiao Zhan and his fans, and now its called the "227 incident". Basically like what xiao zhan fans did, they also left bad ratings and reviews on works that Xiao Zhan participated in.
These anti-fans also started digging up Xiao Zhan's past (like discrimination against women).
And about the fanfiction that caused all these, according to 38jiejie.com, the fanfiction was about Xiao Zhan & Wang Yi Bo. Xiao Zhan's character is portrayed as a male dressing up as a female prostitute with gender dysphoria and wants to transition to female. Wang Yi Bo plays a high school student who falls in love with Xiao Zhan's character.
Looking at all these, I don't think I can fully trust any information that I've received until when Xiao Zhan decided to speak up about this. But even if he didn't speak up about this, it's not his fault. No matter what kind of offensive jokes he made in the past, doesn't make him at fault about this situation. We've all probably offended others at least once in our lives, just learn and grow from it, know whats wrong.
Sorry if I might have confused things, but take this and the previous post as just a normal fan who want to share her thoughts on this situation 😊
