I registered as self employed a year and a half ago but until January this year my main income (by a long way) was full time employment, that plus a lot of expense to set myself up in business means that I actually average a fairly significant loss rather than profit...not sure what this means for me. Also what about all the people with ongoing business expenses who are going to have to pay them out of 80% of what would have been their profit after said expenses?

We turned over an £8k loss last year and barely made £2k profit this year so I doubt we will have much from the '80% of profits' plan. But apparently more help is on the way? We are a 2 man mobile mechanics (husband is the mechanic I am all admin & books) been trading for 13 months now hence low turnover. We have been in isolation for more than 2 weeks due to my husbands lung collapsing just over a fortnight ago, after his surgery he was advised to self isolate for 6 weeks as soon as he got home so we are getting very desperate now

Small Business Toolbox
Hey folks! So our Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has published the support package for self employed folk in this difficult time. I don't envy Rishi's task of having to come up with a simple plan to suit everyone in the face of the incredible complexities and intricacies of UK small businesses. Having said that I've already received several notes from hard working sole traders who are going to have to shut down their businesses in light of what's going on and aren't likely to qualify for any government aid. How will this situation and support package impact your business? Please let me know as I might be making a video about this. Cheers folks and stay safe! Andy Mac 👍
