Can you help me understand why the semi auto trigger travel changes with the burst cam. I noticed with my M16 quite early on when shooting slow fire that I would have a perceptibly long trigger creep, next shot would be less creep, then even less. It would go back to long, med, short etc. M4a1 did not behave this was but it was semi and auto select. I figured it had to be the burst cam but I never investigated that deeply and now I no longer have access to an M16. However, I didn't think the burst cam had any overlap with the primary sear engagement.

The answer to the question asked 1 day ago, is: 2 rounds!
The green disconnector cam always rotates. This is also true in "Semi Mode." So, when in "Burst Mode," only 2 rounds are fired. This is also described in "Rifle Marksmanship M16-/M4-Series Weapons": "The M16A2/4 and M4 disconnectors have a three-cam mechanism that continuously rotates with each firing cycle. Based on the position of the disconnector cam, the first trigger pull (after initial selection of the BURST position) can produce one, two, or three firing cycles [...]" (4-19)
