As a lifelong metalhead, one of the few bands I listened to growing up (also in Chicago) that was not metal was Styx. I enjoyed the progressive elements the likes of which can be found in early Rush and the great Iron Maiden, while the soulful and fantastical elements gave the songs an expansive, deeper quality. Of course, that was the Styx that you created, Dennis - and, when you left, it’s obvious you took that rare genius with you. The current iteration of Styx would never have even approached the success of the 70s and early 80s without you. So, as today’s Styx flails and chases its tail looking for a new musical direction, you demonstrate that you are still a consistent, stalwart talent - offering music that Styx would be lucky to have. This song is a pleasing rocker – not the death metal I’m used to – but a toe tapping, amusing, and all together enjoyable punch to the face of today’s propaganda media establishment. I wish more songs like this would call it the way it is. I don’t know if this Music is going to be your last but it doesn’t need to be. You are every bit as good as you were and I wouldn’t stress Styx. The quality and reception of their work since you left the band speaks for itself. You win; they lose. It is a declining nostalgia band bereft of originality or any relevant musical contributions today. You, however, seem to be rolling right along, reminding fans of what Styx used to be and could be today while offering music that is still relevant and fresh.
