Cavett captured so many gems. If there’s anyone’s shadow I’m fine operating within, it’s his.

Ben, thank you for finding this! Madeline Kahn has been my comedy hero for years, but I've never seen this interview before. it was wonderful! She was her usual eccentric self, but it was tempered by a relatable, down-to-earth attitude about "hip" movements. I appreciate her honesty about why she feels drawn to them, but also why she can never be in them. It was right on the money, and it's how I feel as a person and an artist in 2021.

Love his talks with Richard Burton and Orson Wells. Not interviews, but talks.

Those old interviews are absolute gold. Great shout with Madeline. What a talent.

Thanks for posting this. Finally got around to actually watching the video. Great stuff. Only knew her from popular films like Blazing Saddles before now. I love her commentary on how rigid and exclusive social movements can be.

Shadows are transitory and they can tell us when our time is up.

Many a late night have i spent watching old clips from the Dick Cavett show. It really puts modern late night "talk shows" to shame. Networks are afraid to host real conversations these days, hence the rise of Youtube channels like yours. You couldn't have picked a better shadow. He'd host actors, politicians, playwrights, and athletes, and engage in thought provoking conversations with each of them. I love the sound of (often awkward) silence when his guests take a moment to think about the questions. It demonstrates beautifully the difference between old television and the modern late night shows with scripted banter, which allow us to only see the carefully curated facades of celebrities rather than the people behind the show-biz curtain. Of course, modern television executives would consider that sort of thing "dead air", and either edit it out or squeeze in a commercial. Sigh...

Always loved how he got shy, pensive, snarky George Harrison to open up and get a little more comfortable.

That was a really funny interview. His other one with Hugh Hefner had me dying.

A ship owned by Evergreen has blocked world trade. Any comment.  Apparently the captain was stunning and brave breaker of glass ceilings and wold trade.
