Why is your time less valuable? Why is your peace of mind not worth as much? It’s okay for you to have headaches and bypass meals to complete an order for someone else? Is it too much to expect customers to plan and prioritize the way you do? Not at all. None of what I mentioned is ok. It’s just not. There’s no excuse for it. Did you know that those types of customers will ALWAYS exist? Most of them will never change. They’ve been trained TOO WELL by many in the cake community that it’s OK to do that to us. Unfortunately, WE, the ones in the cake community who have repeatedly made the same mistake over and over again of accepting last minute orders, are the ones to blame. We birthed this problem. But WE CAN CHANGE IT!!! It’s time to start valuing our time. We need to respect ourselves, our families, our peace of mind, and recognize the TRUE WORTH of our hard and beautiful work. I quit taking last minute orders years ago, and I know MANY of you have as well. If you are a Cake Artist who still takes last minute orders, I encourage you to come on board, for the sake of us ALL. I know it’s scary, but trust me, trust US, there’s nothing to fear. It will be OK. If WE did it, you can do it too. All it takes is a little bit of courage, a little wisdom in choosing better customers, and a little faith and trust in God that HE will bring you the RIGHT clients.
