The Pink Envelope

Are you Team Copic or Team Spectrum Noir? Maybe you’re an equal opportunity colorer and use both? 🤔 I think here are 👍🏻 and 👎🏻 to both @copicmarker and @spectrumnoir. If you know me, you’ll know my ❤️ belongs to Copic’s. Tell me which you prefer and why?

Blessed to have full sets of both Copics and Spectrum Noir (colouring system and illustrator) (plus Blicks and Le Plume). Have to say I like them all for various reasons and uses, especially different size images. I have put them to the "test" by coloring the same image with similar colors in each of the different sets and asking non-crafty friends and family which they like "best". Quite frequently, the image colored with one of the cheaper brands was picked as the "best". Certainly, I love Copics, but for the price you can get great capability with other brands, especially if you would rather spend your crafty budget on other items like stamps or dies. With so many choices. Crafters who are interested in alcohol marker coloring should get what makes sense for them and their space...especially until they know they will love it. Can always wait and save to get "the big stuff" when it is on sale (it almost always goes on sale somewhere) or maybe add it to a wish list for birthday. Then, hand your cheaper set down to a new crafter or budding artist. I confess to wanting all the markers and full set syndrome, but I am always super amazed at what some artists can do with a simple #2 pencil and an eraser or plain ball point pen on regular notebook paper. Make the most of what you do have and enjoy it. Nothing worse than dried out markers, pens, inks, and glues because you never used them. FWIW, one of the best most adaptable coloring tools for the price, in my opinion, are any of the bristle brush markers. They can be blended full color or used as watercolor.

I started with SN way back before they improved them. So many of my markers were dried out and unusable at the time of purchase that I just gave up on coloring. Several years later I caved and started buying Copics and I’m so glad I did! They’re a much higher quality, easy to find, and I bought most of mine at Michael’s with 50% off coupons. Plus there are several online sites that have them at a more reasonable price and sometimes there’s even a sale. And of course I’ve requested them as gifts from family. So now I have about 170 Copics and I’m very happy with the range of colors I have. I’ve signed up for an in person Copic class with Sandy Allnock in June and I can’t wait to meet her!

Copics. 1000000%. I had the SN’s briefly before I finally started investing in my Copics and WOW!! What a difference!

I am on disability. I just can't justify copics. They are too expensive. I have a full set of SN and i really enjoy alcohol marker coloring. I still can't justify $8/marker. Ever.

@kristig8246

I have several large sets of SN and no copics so i can't compare. I wish the SN had a brush tip but for the $ (especially on clearance at HL last year!) I'm not going to complain. They're certainly adequate and I'm not a professional so don't need professional quality.

As someone that owns all the SN, I prefer Copic. Just a superior product, better availability and ease when purchasing pieces parts. The quality of my set is very inconsistent.
