As I look in the mirror I see me, and I'm just growing older.Though I cant see them, all that I hear are the spirits on my shoulder. One yells at me mean things and says them deep into my ear.While I know her words are lies, she is often all I hear. "You are fat, and you are ugly, who could love someone that broken,You eat junk food and you're lazy hear my words now for a token" "If you're honest and look clearly you'll see bags, and sags, and wrinkles, Those aren't pretty or desired, and you're pimples look like sprinkles" "Do not look, just turn away your body is so gross,You should hate it just like I do, whenever I get too close" I'm confused (the mother says to herself as she slowly turns away),I feel conflicted as I hear these mean things every day. I know they're lies and yet to them I hear so loud and clear,Another voice is speaking whispering sweetly in my ear. It's a voice that is familiar with a tone so soft and mild,Whispering gently, sweetly, to me now like a mother to her child: "Do not listen to the devil who would hurt you with a lie, What you cant see is her laughing as you turn away and cry" "Your reflection as a child of God is perfect, know I speak true,And the mother of your spirit's not much different as they made you." "Perfect bodies are not unused standing tiny without girth.They are often round and curvy, from the years of childbirth. " "Cherish this body you've been given, it's a gift for you to love,Take good care and trust it's beauty is Divine like those from up above." A smile broad and wide crosses my mouth into a grin,A twinkle in my eye shines bright as I feel so good within. "It's true!" I whisper to myself and look back at the mirror.What a gift I have been given, as I hear the goodness clearer. Each day is still a struggle now as I look at my reflection.
