According to the Chinese Calendar, today is Duan Wu Jie, (Duan Wu Festival) known as the Dragon Boat Festival. On this day we remember a great man Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu. The foolish emperor would not listen to his advice and accused him of treason. In despair, Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.
The locals, who admired him, raced out in their boats to retrieve his body. This is the origin of dragon boat races. When his body could not be found, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan's body This started the tradition of the hot dumplings, known in Chinese as "zongzi" (粽子.) In some concerts, when Teresa sings this song, she distributes dumplings to the audience.
