PS. If the poll turns out to be 50-50, I'll probably just leave it up to a coin toss!

I'm recommending theatrical because that's the way I saw it. Extended cuts should generally be reserved for people who have already seen it and want more. I'm so glad you asked this, though!!!

To be fair these films would benefit SHORTENED version. Seriously, Peter Jackson would redeem himself with this debacle if he would shorten the film (I see no harm done by doing so :))

I would recommend neither honestly. Read the book. Watch a movie that is worth watching instead.

You should watch the theatrical cut of the first one and skip the rest. Jackson had no idea what he was doing and it shows.

The theatrical version is more than enough! Frankly, I was bored by it, though I liked LOTR.

There is a channel called the Cardinal (something?) That cut down the entire hobbit trilogy to one movie, and it works. I recommend that instead.

My reflex is to always choose the extended cut of any movie I'm going to watch, since if it's worth watching then it's worth watching all the available footage/runtime, but for THIS one that feels like the wrong move. Uhhhhmmmmmm.... Wow. I can't decide, so I'll abstain. I guess if I had to choose, I'd say skip these and just watch LotR again instead.

Don't plan to watch as I didn't like any of The Hobbit trilogy! Making one film would have been quite sufficient! I don't like how the story was changed completely in many ways - the Lord Of The Rings movies were done very well I thought!

The theatrical cut is already much too bloated. I wouldn't go for the extended. Personally, all of them are worth skipping, tbh.

Dont watch them! Dont tarnish your memory of lotr, jackson was forced to direct these movies after guillermo del toro was fired (pans labyrinth director) he literally had no script and was making it up as he went along

Sorry Shan but it will makes no difference. Disaster in both cases. :) I hope you read the book before watching this, that's all I can say. :) Will probably end up checking your reaction nonetheless. Peace!

I’ll be honest. It appears as though you have a magnet of some kind for excellent films. Wow. I love your full reactions you notice every detail. Please continue. And I highly recommend Blue Velvet.

Hi Shan, Just wanted to mention that the songs in the credits in the hobbit are very very good and one is sung by Ed sheeran and the other by billy boyd (pippin). Would be great to hear you react to them in the vids aswell!

Shan Watches Movies
Hey Guys!
I'm starting the Hobbit Trilogy tomorrow! (it should be out by next week on YouTube)
Quick question: Should I watch the theatrical or extended cut?
I wanted to ask since there was a huge push for me to watch the extended cuts for main LOTR trilogy.
Anyways, do let me know.
Shan
