LIVE TRAVEL ASIA

So I've been getting a lot of comments that I should return back to Thailand and teach English but here's the straight numbers and the actual reality if you're also considering this option as well. I made only about 500 USD teaching English part time. If I get a full time job I can realistically expect to make around 1K USD but that probably means I'll be giving up Youtube which I currently make around 100 USD but my Patreons also donate 200 USD. When you look at it this way maybe it'll make sense why I am not motivated to go back and teach English.
Youtubing part time and teaching English part time had me making a little less than 1K, but if I worked full time I still wouldn't be making much more and English teaching is as much of a dead end job as you can get. It's also highly susceptible to automation in the future. After I spend time with my parents I have a decision to make. Honestly, none of the financial options in Thailand are attractive as you should all know 1K USD isn't any more of a financial stability over 800USD. Going to America is almost not an option either as it would most likely mean I am breaking up with Mayu and I'd be living paycheck to paycheck anyways. It's a decision I am certain I'd regret in the long term dying lonely alone while my family is in Korea and my heart is in Thailand. Why I considered part time jobs in Korea is because if I could theoretically make as much as I did in Thailand over a few months. I could than really focus on Youtubing when I am in Thailand and bring the videos that you guys have been asking for such as complete guides which requires a lot more time than 2 days a week to consistently make and edit. if I am working part time, that's 3 days I am working and another 2 to rest, take care of issues, shop, spend time with Mayu etc so Youtubing had to take second place at times. Recently I had 4 Patreons come on board to support me for an additional 50 USD in donations. At this point I am thinking if I can make it to around 500 in total revenue I'll just Youtube full time and go where my Patreons want me to cover. Hopefully this gives you better insight into the choices I am considering. There are of course additional personal, health, financial, and legal reasons to consider but even based on just the hard income numbers what would you do? I am leaning toward just working a bit harder to bring my Youtube revenue up and focus all my effort into something I love doing which is bringing you guys an honest realistic perspective of living in Asia since financial security isn't really a short term option for me anyways. What the hell is financial security anyways? We'll all die if we catch a disease no matter how much money we have and we only have one life to live. Might as well live it the way we want. I hope you enjoy the upcoming series and my 3 times a week upload schedule. And the best support I can get is you continuing to watch my videos, liking it, and commenting even just to say hi because it'll bring me one step closer living the dream :)

whatever financial decision you make, it must include Maya in there because as most older viewers here know from past relationships, "the girl that got away", because women just can't be left alone too long by themselves. good luck

You do a great job with the YouTube videos, keep up the good work! The information you had in your video about the hospitals in BKK, along with viewer comments was priceless!

I totally understand the difficulty of your situation. Unfortunately the work situation for expats in Thailand became more difficult over the years. 1K USD isn't that much anymore especially when you live in BKK. Try to do what you love because from a rational point of view it is quite impossible to find the best option

Hey man. Been watching you and I wanted to chime in. Like you, I'm an Asian American who's moved to Asia. Living in Thailand now but also for a few years in Taiwan. I wanted to give you some encouragement and even lend some business advice if you're interested. I've lived off my business the last 6-7 years. The whole time I've been in Asia basically. I sell ebooks I write myself and it makes around 40K usd per year net and takes only 2-4 hours a week to handle customer service. Way easier than YouTube in fact. You have a really good YouTube personality that is easy to digest so I suggest sticking with it. But I think what might help is changing your YouTube focus to a different niche or topic. One where the ad revenue money is. Doesn't seem like much money in the "Thailand tourism" market. Or perhaps there is, but you may need to reach out to companies in Thailand and do some partnership deals because doing that alone will give you more earnings with the same traffic numbers. I know this can be a tough time filled with lots of uncertainty. Hope to see things work out for you. Best of luck.

I don't know why the only thing you can do in Thailand is to teach English. Have that as a component but leverage some other online business or hustle. You've acquired heaps of skills producing your channel. Start a skillshare course or teach video editing. Become a Korean translator. Dude, there are so many other things you could do in Thailand to supplement your income. But, yes grow your channel and maybe niche down even more. I'm thinking Bangkok real estate hacks or consultancy. Just throwing some stuff out there. But yes, get back to your girlfriend and remember she has her own hopes and dreams and ambitions. Keep her in the picture and sit down and chat. Peace

@CreativeRamy

What your experiencing is exactly what goes through my mind, we need to develop another business that's online parallel to YouTube so you don't have to be tied down to a classroom - I'm still yet to figure that out...

You just got to Korea, give it a chance. If you're working there part time, keep making videos in Korea! I've been waiting so long for someone like you to make Korea videos and now YOU'RE there. Make Thai videos when you go back on holiday, but make Korea your main content while you're there. Whatever you do, don't quit.

You got this Ethan! It will all work out in the end. Have you considered teaching English in Korea? It can sometimes be a real drag, but a way to earn right there not too far from family. Maybe not forever either, but an interim way to earn while you figure out the rest of the story... NO need to quit YT with this option

Hey Ethan, I can relate in so many ways. 2005, sold everything I had at 25 and moved from Irvine to Bangkok and never looked back. Definitely challenges in the journey, but its lead me to where I'm at today. I don't take you for a 9-5 guy nor a full time English teacher. You've got an entrepreneur energy and need to tap into that. Ping me when you're back in BKK.

Life is too short, as long you have enough money for food and shelter the rest is all BS.

What I've seen several gyopos do is come back to Korea during the summer breaks and teach at several different English camps during the break. It's easy money and requires only a few days to a week of commitment. You can make a lot in a short time and return back to stay in Thailand with that money that'll go further. It's worth looking into. 😀

As an alternative, you can stay in Chiang Mai on the Self Defense visa. Teach English ONLINE (more money, but do it in your apartment ONLY). At $20 per hour, you will do fine. Load up your Self Defnse days with teaching hours also, making these long days for you. On the other days, do lite teaching for a few hours, then the rest of the time for your girlfriend and YouTube

You can work in Thailand on your own business as long if your business is located outside of Thailand and your customers are not in Thailand. That's what i do... never got a problem with it

Do you have investments from when you worked in the US or sold your condo? Maybe you could branch out and consider Korean translation/interpretation for Thai business firms who have a need to communicate in Korean to Korean subsidiaries in Bangkok, do business to business (b2b) copywriting helping Korean firms sell more products to US businesses (your banking experience and US Korean experience is great background and the pay is good, you are helping businesses sell more), design a course or ebook on your video technical expertise and sell it on Amazon Kindle or Udemy. Maximize your US-Korean language/cultural value to business firms, like advertising firms. Use your video skills to help other You tubers who are lacking there, be a consultant. Get a business going! Having lived in Asia (Japan) for 4 years, I love your videos! You'll be great!!
