Happy “Dick Van Dyke Show” Day! Sixty years ago today, on October 3, 1961, America met the Petrie family, Buddy Sorrell, Sally Rogers, and Mel Cooley. They would later also meet Millie and Jerry Helper, Alan Brady, and a collection of hilarious secondary characters and guest stars. Once America met these characters, they haven’t forgotten about them.

For five seasons, the show entertained audiences with its comedy, music, laughter, love, and fun. I can always turn to this show (one of the best shows of all time) as a way to bring comfort and laughter. Whenever I’m upset or need a break, I watch an episode of this show. I know it can always make me smile. I’m very glad this show was created, and I’m even more glad its legacy persists today.

This show is special—really, truly special. From the cast’s impeccable chemistry to the hilarious, clever writing and more, “The Dick Van Dyke Show” remains a classic. The show had a perfect balance, showcasing entertaining physical comedy (mainly from Dick Van Dyke’s Rob Petrie), heartwarming moments between Rob and Laura Petrie, and relatable situations. The characters feel like real people—because they are. They’re your friends, relatives, next door neighbors, colleagues, etc. They are authentic, realistic people, and it is always a joy to watch their hilarious situations. Sixty years later, people are still laughing and loving this show, and that makes me so happy. This show will continued to be celebrated for many years to come.

Happy “Dick Van Dyke Show” Day, everyone! Let’s celebrate our beloved show today. Be sure to watch my tribute video (posted on my channel)! 💙
