Reading is reading, if you read something then that is considered reading.

Yeah it does. As someone with dyslexia, reading graphic novels really helps me absorb what I’m actually reading.

I think that it depends on what you classify as reading. Like, an english teacher wouldn't be very happy with manga, but if you're just reading casually, yeah it counts. It's really just up to the reader.

As a pink haired poet once said: Manga is literature!

I think so. I mean, people "read" comic books, so why shouldn't manga count?

I don’t read One Piece but I would count manga as reading

Yes, it's still reading, but not everybody who reads manga is a one piece fan

The gate keeping on reading being only one format is preventing those who may consider an audiobook, graphic novel, or manga from feeling like they’re part of the conversation. I am an avid reader in all formats and people I care for, who have difficulties reading in the “traditional” format, are drawn into a world by the art taking the place of the written description so they can focus on the conversation and relationship of the characters. The same is true with audiobooks. At the end of the day, it’s a story that you are taking part in, no matter the format, and that can impact your heart and soul as well as expand your mind.

Tbh, reading Manga/LN is sometimes more enjoyable than reading some books for school

Correct me if I’m wrong, but manga is like a comic book. If the book is long enough and has a decent word count then it should be considered reading.

Mangas are a great way to start reading and developing love for books etc. If you enjoy it, let it be! It's a"book" with a story line. Just because it has images, doesn't mean it has less value. If you enjoy classic literature, congratulations. If you enjoy reading novels, same ! If you put an effort, keep learning and keep stimulating your brain, that's all that matters. Reading is all about that.

Asking people on an animation channel if manga counts as reading is sure to have a bias

I have honestly found reading manga as more of a emotional experience with some amazing character arcs, character development, huge impacts and etc. Some of the examples are Vinland Saga's first two arcs which are by themselves probably the best thing I've ever read. Another manga of similar sorts is Vagabond, highly recommend reading manga.

I definitely think so. There's literally manga adaptations of famous books like Frankenstein (Junji Ito), Les Mis, Pride and Prejudice and much more. I also have never watched or read one piece

Probably the only thing is that you don't hallucinate as badly-? You still get invested in the same way. <3

Since the option does not allow: yes manga counts as reading but it is a very active kind because you switch between text and image.

I noticed a debate in the comments of a recent video ("Why you should Read Less"), so let's settle it. Does reading manga count as *reading*?
