Youkeyy

Hi. I deactivated IG a while ago but I came back to say this. For those who don’t know, I was born and raised in Nigeria. My entire life I have heard of the incompetency and greed of its leaders and major mismanagement of funds and resources by the government. Police brutality has been going on in Nigeria for far more years than I have been alive. A subunit of the police force called SARS (Special anti robbery squad) is notorious for KILLING and harrassing people for looking nice, having an iphone/laptop, driving a nice car, having dreads, colored wigs, earrings as a man, tattoos, etc. They have extorted millions of $ from people, claiming that they are too young to own these things and accusing them of fraudulent activities. Protests have been going on since footage surfaced of people being killed, beaten, and tortured by this “police” force called SARS.

They announced SARS agents would be redeployed to other units and a new force formed. They are calling this new one SWAT 🥴. But because we know better, protests are continuing all around the country. What sense does it make to redistribute the same group of MURDERERS who hurt, extort, and kill unarmed citizens of their own nation? Even in the midst of these protests, some agents have been seen continuing to harrass people. Some protesters have lost their lives because these hungry unstable individuals who have allowed themselves to be conduits of the devil, decided to shoot LIVE bullets into crowds of peaceful protesters. We have yet to see ONE officer lose their job or even face criminal charges.

Yet the young people of Nigeria remain incredibly resourceful. We are seeing food, water, supplies, legal aid, medical aid, and other services being distributed to different regions of protests. The main channel of communication for this distribution has been social media, mainly twitter. It is such a beautiful thing to see that this is happening. I am excited for more people to wake up and for Nigerians to take their country back from the hands of those who have abused it for so long. 2020 was the shift that was necessary. Please check #EndSARS #EndSWAT among other hashtags on twitter. I also recommend @samuelotigba ‘s IG stories. Help is still very much needed. Please sign the petition. The link is in my stories.
