Benjamin A Boyce

It’s only a mob, and it’s only treason
And undemocratic if for the wrong reasons
And silence is violence, and so are some words
And riots are proper—from certain unheard

And I am not saying any violence is just
Or that institutions have maintained our trust
But the slippery slope we are now sliding down
Was waxed up & watered by click-chasing clowns

By partisan media, and Q-anon threads
And bullies on pulpits with nought in their heads
And teens on their tablets, and moms on phones
And dads writing screeds while they’re working from home

And Woke justice warriors—and Anti-Woke, too!
All of us working to tighten the screws
Til the threads are unthreaded, and what joins us is strained
And begins to buckle and cannot maintain

Order or ✨discourse✨—but only shrieks & flung fists
And were any to ask how we came to this
The answer is simple: this eternal flame war
Is mostly baseless emotion—which we’re all suckers for

(Do something constructive in real life today.)

Yes, I agree; and so tangibly articulated this is!👍 Right now, I'm finishing up making a nice warm coat for my smallest dog, from the downy-soft yarn I hand-spun from the very first shearing of a friend's lamb last spring. My dog will like this. But she won't like the bath she's going to get later today too. . . And I'm glad she can't read

Stripping old paint off my bathroom. One by one I'm going to make the rooms of this fixer-upper habitable and somewhere people would want to live. I don't know how long it'll take. But not so long as it otherwise might have. Stay safe, Ben.

Well said, as always. Per the last advice, I'll detach from technology today and see how the ducks and crows are doing at the old samurai castle ruins park near my home. (I don't think my study abroad could have happened at a better time.)

I really needed this, but I didn't know I needed it until I had it. Thanks.

Fantastic work. I'm not a poet and never will be, but that has inspired me to do MORE. Thank you Benjamin. Please stay safe and healthy.

Yesterday I spent 12 hours cleaning and helping my brother move, even had a decent conversation with someone who is seeing a very different version of reality than me. Good stuff. Today I cleaned my room.

I appreciate this so much. To see reason amidst a see of emotionalism is like an antidote to stress...

I’ve decided that there is much I’m powerless to change in this crazy space we’re in right now but I can get up each day and be kind and patient with whom ever I meet. I can smile under my mask and let my eyes show it. I can serve those who come into the hospital gift shop I volunteer at with their stresses and fatigue. In other words, I can treat others the way I prefer they treat me. And I can lay my head down at night to rest up for the next day. Today I started an online class just for learning something new.

What the world needs is a unifying vision we can rally behind. Unification with those we see as enemies requires forgiveness and trust. It’s much easier for people to fall back into their tribes. Trust takes time and must be protected. We need leaders who can build that vision. - It’s more complex but I find that the core problem is the ease with which we can fall to our basic minds and the friction to transcend to a world where we make the necessary concessions for freedom and peace.
